I was going to install a stock grab handle on the passenger side A pillar. I've done this in the past with 2 other 62 series. The wife appreciates the added point of help in getting in.
Fine the holes thru the liner material, then realize there are no threads on the holes.
This rig is a 1990, the other 2 were 1988's. the holes are there but nothing to screw the screws into.
Guessing I'll use a rivnut type product
thoughts?

I would put a riv-nut in the holes you drilled and you should be fine.

From what I understood, the holes were already there but, surprisingly, not threaded. So, your advice seems sound to me. I'm planning on installing 3 point rear seat belts in Betty once she passes the 'old timer' inspection, and am hoping the existing holes for the rear bench seat are set up to accept the seat belt bolts.

correct pre-existing holes that in other years are threaded and surprised they aren't threaded in this rig.
Local Napa has a metric kit in stock so probably going to pick it up

My Jan/88 had all the "handle holes" threaded, including the rear shoulder belt mount holes. I wonder what dictated the variations between holes being threaded or not threaded when the bodies were being manufactured.

At the risk of being labeled a “lazy bum” and if you guys possess the patience and the time, would love to see a detailed pictorial on this small but innovative install. Also, the correct OEM grab handle part number and color code.
