Thermostat has its own gasket, #16346

The orings for the green are black and are in the HG kit. The thermostat has its own oring that I included: 16346-66020.

That water bypass pipe has a coupling that connects it to the thermostat housing. There are two o-rings that go on that coupling. It was tough to pull off the bypass pipe since the o-rings became very hard.

 awww yeah!

Am I missing something here? Do I really have to disconnect the AC lines to remove the thermostat housing?

Oh, and I'm an idiot... There are two metal lines that wrap around the front of the head. I forgot to install those and their bracket on the drivers side... And the bolts won't fit now because the injectors are in the way... Argh!

OK... getting kinda close to buttoning this up... a few questions:

1. Have these two open fittings off of the fuel pressure regulator? and one off the intake?

2. Mystery hose on the driver's side, under the intake?

3. Looking up from underneath... appear to have an open bolt hole on the intake? I am 99% sure that I reinstalled all of the intake bolts (I had them labeled and taped... don't have any left over)

4. Seem to have misplaced the lower alternator bolt that goes through the adjuster. So, belts are on... but they don't seem to be making contact with the idler pulley and it would appear that once I insert the missing bolt and start cranking tension, that the belts will be even further from the tensioner?
*no pics, sorry*

5. Another mystery bolt hole... this time, on the lower intake, visible from the top

Any help here?

The two ports on the fuel pressure regulator are the return line to the tank and the other is a vacuum line from the VSV

1. Just find a short vac hose to connect the two nipples.

3 & 5. Looks like shiny areas where bolt heads used to reside. Sure you didn't put these bolts elsewhere?

See my pics for a "memory jogger" :D

Just have to add some coolant and ID one mystery hose/issue and I'm HOPING to turn the key tomorrow!

Nice work! Takes some courage to tackle something outside of your comfort zone. Cant wait to see the final results.:beer::beer

BTW don't forget to hook up the mass air flow wiring harness:)

You got a hose clamp there that needs to be slid up on whatever that is just ahead of the MAF. Must be the PAIR? I don't have that on my 96.

Very excellent work! Thanks for sharing!

Yes, the loose clamp goes to the PAIR valve. I moved that already. Good eyes though!
