Just found your thread.
I've been driving our '89 62 for 20yrs with an H42 4-speed.
Makes all the difference! Much better get-up and go. MPH is actually better in local driving.
Looking forward to the next local meet up to catch up with folks.

I am very excited to get through this.
Look forward to the next meet up.

Well, was really hoping to have knocked this out prior to the New Year but alas, I spent the morning chasing down the package that was purported to be delivered to my front porch last night.

Ended up finding that and now my big push final day is tomorrow. While I love getting parts (don’t we all) some just hit harder.

"You're gonna want that reverse." 😀
HNY from Shanghai, great to see the forward progress.

Happy My Half Birthday!!

Paul is finally home and ambulatory. Need to button up the interior and several small things but after many days driving the 2 hour round trip to Jimmy’s magical barn to plug away at this conversion, I finally drove this truck with a manual transmission.

Appropriately Jimmy rode shotgun on the inaugural cruise then I loaded her back onto the trailer and drove home.

Here are some pictures.

So happy for you, man.
A big thanks to you Christian.

Haven’t even been in 4th yet, the interior is a shot shiw.

Manana will be the time. Now that she’s in my driveway I’m wrapping her up.

Thank you sir and yes, you are correct, having Jimmy as a mentor is golden.

Looking forward to tackling some mountain trails with you this summer.

Yes! Would love to hear how you like the change to a manual 4sp. I'm sure it feels a bit odd but as others have mentioned, it might turn out that you end up preferring it.
And happy to have helped. 😀

This a huge step. Congrats !!

Now I’m looking for the elusive 1987 shifter outer boot…
I had a shifter boot damaged at the bottom, I found another that had rodent damage at the top, so I cut the respective top and bottom pieces off and overlapped the 2 in the ribs, it worked great! Just FYI.

Good thought.

Amayama shows they have new stock of them, I’ll find out tomorrow for sure.
I’ll be kludging for the time being though.

Check Impex Japan as well? Solid deals there, service is kinda slow.

Call Classic Cruisers. You know this.

Amayama emailed and claim to have this boot in stock, this appears to be the “5 sided” boot for the later 60 series. Can anyone confirm?
If legit, it’s $48 plus reasonable shipping.

Part # 58280-90A04

That boot has been discontinued forever - you won't be getting one from Amayama.
The one i sent you is showing out for delivery today UPS
