I also got the intake paper gasket as well as an OE exhaust manifold gasket. Figured I’d snag a Remflex because I’ve got a fairly good exhaust leak and my girl Norman has a Remflex that has seemed to hold up well. Good times ahead.

Oh yes indeedy...I like the way you party, mister! Here's where I am on the same job....

My motor is G'uh'ROSS! And has lots of brittle bits on it, I can see at least one exhaust manifold bolt that's (been) broken. That said, I just picked up a 3F exhaust manifold bolt/stud kit from @cruisermatt , nice kit. Recommend it if you need it.

Did you go deeper already or are you on the way?

During my “why is it stumbling at idle?” phase I pumped gallons of Seafoam throttle body cleaner through my intake so I am hoping it’s at least moderately clean in there. Maybe?

Made it far enough to get to here.
One broken bolt on a heat shield so far.
Short and curly’s crossed…

Actually made it farther than that pic. Got the ar rail off with no damage and finally plugged the holes with the desmog set screws.

Also, a Lamborghini got in our way on the way home from dinner.

I remember doing this job and sweating bullets putting the injector plugs back on, hoping I didn't get them wrong. Fortunately I got them right but wished I'd marked them. It's kinda hard to mess up, but didn't trust myself. Also that plastic gets brittle, busted a plug clip on one, but it's jammed in there so tight there's really no place for it to go.

You having the injectors cleaned in the meantime or just sending it?

Going to use one of the scAmazon “cleaner/testers” by otherwise sending it. May regret it but truck needs to be ready by the 1st of June for a road trip with my son.

It's prob fine if it was all good before. Made 0 difference when I had mine rebuilt except my wallet was lighter. Looking back I'd do the same thing as you, tbh. Kick a$$ and carry on.

Thanks for the backup, my biggest leap forward was truly cleaning the cold start injector. I’ll probably soak that again while doing this other work.

Looks like I have a side quest for some headers first though…

What’s hiding in the shop bathroom under the ladders? Is it a snake? That’s always a reasonable question to ask in Texas.
