@bottombracket Galen,
I got good and distracted…

Taking a handwash break to look up some info on O-rings for the injectors. Seems like a standard enough thing to go snag at the auto parts store.

Will likely need a couple replacement bolts for the manifold. Speaking of bolts, almost all were disturbingly loose except for two. Barely tightened down. Only broke the one heat shield bolt that I will (attempt) get out.

Also, one of the exhaust doughnuts was essentially powder.

OE gasket was in sad shape.

Looks like someone did their homework on the CFD ( computational fluid dynamics) with that header design. Looks like the diameter is appropriate and the lengths should promote good scavenging :)

My research on headers has led me to many corners. None pertaining to CFD though.

Locally sourced FI gasket kit
So glad I got these as the gaskets were all hard rock plus I was able to sacrifice some old ones while testing/cleaning the injectors which worked fine. A bit of a learning curve and only a can of Berryman’s would work out of 3 brands.
Nipple specifics.

The gasket kits are very complete.

If you are up for diving into the weeds of CFD, this is a nice straightforward example from some of my colleagues at Altair. Warning: Nerd alert…

Couple questions…did you use a thread locker/sealant on the air rail plugs? Looks like something is on the plugs.

Also, what is that on your freeze plug…a block heater plug?

Yes, I used red locktite on the air rail set screws and snugged them down with alacrity to boot.

Yes, that is a block heater. The plug/cord side is pretty much beat to sh!t from being there unprotected and is just a wee nub now. I have a replacement coming but I sure wish it were oriented 180* so the cord would go down. I didn’t put it in and was initially confused by the three prong plug coming out of the engine.

This is always so satisfying when it actually works.

Didn’t have a large enough allen wrench so I made this tool by forcing two different thread pitches together and using the bolt head as the “allen wrench”.

I think this must be the first or second documented case of an easy out actually living up to its namesake :)
I know a guy who looks remarkably like me with a name very similar to mine who is batting roughly 700 with a kit that is this kit. Shockingly.

Oil galley plug
This wasn’t as fun as I was hoping but nothing broke. It’s setting up with some JB weld 2-part high strength epoxy while I finish assembling the the other side of the project.

Classic 5/16 x 18 pair of 3/8” long set screws.
Used the zip tie greased up shop towel trick in the head bolt hole.
Tapping took the longest and was the most clenchiest.
Very glad that is done though the plug that was in there was actually pretty hard to drill out. Ended up pushing it through while tapping I think.

On my list as well. So you pulled the head bolt? I don’t want to, but that last photo is very convincing to do so.

A must I would say, I pulled a lot of shavings out of there via 3 X zip tie greasy towel trick.
90 ft pounds back on.

Well one of you is preaching the gospel of proper use while turning water into completed projects. Effective… though mildly concerning.

Well, happy to report that other than hooking up my throttle cable wrong and experiencing a 30,000 rpm first start, everything is better…

Truck idles more evenly without the exhaust leak “click”. Lots of smoke from nooks and crannies on first start. Expected it but was still a wee unnerving until everything settled down now.

It did take some idling for whatever amounts to a computer to self adjust to the healthier system. I’ll have to learn about that junk at some point.
