Small upgrade but a nice little monitor for charging and general battery health.

Several folks asked me where I got this. I am ashamed to say scAmazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0CZN6ZVZP?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

However it had 3 things I had to have, in this order:

1) night vision maintained, either red, amber or green.
2) USB-C and whatever the older one is called. Needed multiple charging options.
3) Low profile/ can’t stick out too much. My stick shift gets pretty close there. In fact I have to rotate the plug 90* CW to have both ports used.

I love knowing what my voltage is on startup and while driving. It’s another great data point that can easily alert you if something is wrong.

Alternator went out in my 40 this summer and if I would’ve had this I would’ve know instantly. VR same thing.

Cheap insurance even if I am helping to build space phallus.

T case skid plate
noticed how naked my t case looked and have been casting about for a skid plate.

Is this essentially the right one

This is what my skid looks like on my '84. Fits perfectly. Looks different than the one above though. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can chime in on the differences. I'd assume maybe that one is an earlier one.

Thanks Chris,

Doesn’t look too different, yours has the additional large hole is really all I can see?

Yeah, my comment was more saying there were different versions it seems which I didn't know. The mounting holes looks to be the same so I'd assume it should fit.

The one Chris has is for the later 60/62’s. Compensates for the spacer or 5th gear

Thanks for clarifying Jimmy! I got this one for free so glad it's the later one since I got my H55 after I had this.

I use SketchUp Pro for work on commercials and today on a whim I looked in the 3D warehouse for any TEQ goodness. Lo and behold I found these:

So what do you do for “work”?
Good question… still trying to figure that out.

This “work” is being what is called a Production Designer for major ad campaigns. Slinging chow from a major fast food corporation this week. Next week is slinging stuff for life outdoors.

You’ve seen my work, you all have.

I’m also a photographer in the same vein.

Shot this for Garmin in Costa Rica a few years ago.
It ain’t all this cool.

I thought you did something with photography. I didn’t know it was this scale.

Way cool. Although I’m sure it comes with its own challenges

Been dreading this post for a bit but since it has a silver lining it may not be terrible?

Paul, the Eater of Transmissions has consumed another transmission. Seriously.

At least this time I can take the blame, I ok’d using a questionable input shaft seal that failed catastrophically and dumped almost 2 pints of gear oil in a matter of an hour or so. Second gear went bye bye.

To say I was pissed off is an understatement. In my greedy and blind rush to finish the swap and start driving I made a poor decision.

Fast forward to a few weeks ago and Jimmy @CenTXFJ60 calls me up and says he may have a solution, our friend Galen @bottombracket came into ownership of a brand new H55 and T case that he wanted to swap out his older H55 with in his HJ61. Galen needs a bunch of stuff done to the truck so offered a trade.

He gives me his older H55f and I do some work on the truck. So here we are. Spent the night Friday down at Jimmy’s Magical Barn and knocked out the third transmission swap within the last year.

So, unfortunately I ruined a perfectly good H42 transmission graciously donated by Christian @zeeklafreek, but I now have what I always wanted anyway.

Took Paul on a 5 mile trip on the freeway last night, joy.

Hopefully I can move on to other projects now, I am very tired of transmission work on this truck.

Can’t let Ian shoulder the burden of “the bad decision” with the 4-speed. I knew it was a sketchy decision we both made and should have halted production til we could get a new seal in-house. Two things…I learn from my errors (and appreciate it) and Paul now has the H55 he soooo needed. Everything always works out :).
