blew my engine, 94 land cruiser. Does anyone have a ballpark on the cost to replace the engine?

No hope to repair or rebuild it? Brand new or used?

Junkyard engine? Rebuilt engine? Engine swap? What happened with the old engine? Did you overheat, will all the other cooling components need to be replaced? The more details you can give us the more realistic answers you will get.

Repair or replace? If repair, what "blew"? If replace, with what? :bang: :bang: :bang:

"Everything??!!"

Sorry @mmorland - you generalize a 'blown motor' in a forum where we all know the 1FZ from memory & it ain't tech enough.

It would help if we know if it's a headgasket issue or if say you ran the motor dry on oil & siezed it.

To be honest, the reality here is you may spend anywhere between $350 (used engine, incredible deal) to $20K (V8 conversion, etc). There's no good answer to this question. There may be an absolute price for a complete new engine, but you're not gonna like it.

Serious question once you quantify the extent of damage-

Do you want to keep it a 1FZ or are you thinking it's a good excuse to put in a _____ -swap motor?

Is this a 'watching every penny' thing, or do you have a 'few extra dimes burning a hole in your pocket'?

The more details you give, the better our answers will suit your situation.

That, or I'll just keep the 2 Live Crew song running in my head :grinpimp:, either works.

Gee whiz, give the man s break. He’s probably a bit rusty. He’s only posted 5 times in 8 years?

Well, in THAT case......

SODOMY!

where are you located? i have a couple of engines left over.

background: have taken very good care of this 94. Driving down freeway and smoke starts bellowing out of the back. Im in traffic doing about 70, trying to get to the side of the road, smoke starts bellowing from the hood. pulled over, continued to smoke. obviously car would not turn over, waited 4 hours for road side assistance. towed it to mechanic, he said your engine is gone, no compression. I have not had a chance to dig deeper with him. He thought a plastic radiator piece broke, causing an instant flush thus overheating and blowing the engine. Thanks for your input. I live in Houston

ive replaced/repaired just about everything on the car but have not messed with the engine

A well cared for '94, with what sounds like a blown head gasket?? That's how I prefer to buy a petrol 80 Series!

I bought mine with a rod hangine out the bottom of the pan. I paid 500 for an engine out of a wrecked cruiser with 136K on the clock. Toss in another 1500, because the engine was on a stand, and why not do the head, timing chain, all the hoses, gaskets, upgrade the alternator, etc. I figured since I wasn't putting in a V8 I should do all that stuff while it's out because that thing is a b**** to work on when it's in the vehicle. I did all the work, if your taking it to a shop I'd say 3K and up easily. This was all in last year and half, I'd say 500-1000 for a used running engine, the rest is up to you, it adds up quick.

the car is still at the shop, waiting to tow it home. Have not had a chance to get a full download from mechanic, he said the bearings are fried and no compression, his take was that radiator piece broke, fluid flushed out immediately causing engine foobar. was on freeway doing about 70, smoke started coming from rear , trying to safely get to side of road in heavy traffic, then smoke from hood. No clue of the total damage .
