Has anyone used a shiftworks shift cable for the a their trans shifting? They look super clean, they are shorter than the trailblazer cable (which i have already). I called them, they are unsure if it will work because they design them for their shifters in mind. They dont know if the toyota shifter and the 4l80 lever match in their distances and stuff like that. I am unsure if I have it correctly in my mind. I measure the distance from park to low on the trans and the distance from park to low on the toyota shifter and i take the greater of the 2 for my throw distance...?
Then i measure the degrees between each gear on both of them and match them up? or is that where the modding begins? and does this have to be done with the trailblazer cable? I know that the cable end doesnt necessarily mount to the toyota shifter directly there will be slight modification there or adding a heim to something etc. but unsure about the cutting of the arm to get the degrees to match? this is where i am unsure... @thatcabledude you have been invaluable on this topic i have looked at your photos but i just am not clear on this last part. Check this video out. May give you some ideas. My throw is a little off, using the trailblazer cable. When I have time, I will figure out using the rod instead. Using the cable isn't as accurate in my case. I had to loop it to the back and since the cable is too long.

For the 4L60/4L80 the lever arm on the Toyota shifter has to be ~3.75" eye to eye to get the correct throw. I used a TCI cable with threaded ends and got everything to line up perfectly. The only weird shift point is third gear, it sits between D and 2 but 2nd and low line up correctly. This is on a 96 shifter with no modifications to the shift gate

Did you have to modify the shifter lever on the Toyota side? I see a lot of guys having to weld a stud or something higher up on the lever for their mounting point of the cable.

I had to cut about .325 out of the arm to get the 3.75 measurement. Since I used a cable with threaded ends, I could only drill a hole up so high before the rod end wouldn't be on a flat surface

I think im going to try and figure something with a heim or weld something the arm to go through an eyelet on the cable. Not sure yet. Thanks for the info though. We are using the same trans so I will be taking notes here.

I swapped my shifter linkage over like in this video but haven't don't the cable/rod yet. I also welded a plate where the shifter linkage went through the tunnel to try and reduce mud and dust coming into the cab.

I was getting excessive heat into the cabin (some openings on the shifter metal plate, allowing heat from the engine, exhaust and tranny to trasmit). The plastic panels were hot. I wrapped it with two layers of sound deadening, exhaust heat shield, heat tape…Hope it will reduce the heat. By the way, be careful with the plastic piece (with tape on it), old so it cracked so I taped it up. Also, the sensor.. there is a warning (yellow sticker) asks us to position in the same position or will be unsafe if you relocate it.

I had to cut a hole rectangular shape to allow for the shifter arm. Initially, was thinking of using the rod but changed to the cable. The exhaust shield covers the areas in red. Deflecting heat. Not sure how efficient since I haven’t install yet. In the process of applying sound deadening on the floor.

Yeah I got some nice speed engineering 304 stainless headers so beating them up before they've even been used nearly brought a tear to my eye .
I think I'll shim the box and see how it goes. Thanks for your input!!!

With my 6L90e, not only did I shorten the throw, but changed the angle of the throw relative to the cable. The latter is important because the shift travels in an arc, while the cable is linear. I have an earlier post on this. My toyota shifter works perfectly through all the stock gates.

I made a 3D cable end to mount the stock GM trailblazer cable to the underside of the transmission tunnel. I did change the angle and shorten the shifter arm on the Toyota shifter. No modification of the stock Toyota gates. This is for 6L80/90e

I have pictures of it all my bracket that holds the cable mounts tab thing is not 3d printed im not on that level of fabrication just steel bracket that holds it bracket mounts to the back side of the transfer case. I take way to many pictures of my builds so gotta dig for them. Some pictures and videos are on my Instagram.
