The truck is further along. Before leaving I was able to get some rust removed. The truck was painted. The whole frame was cleaned off and prepped and rustproofed.

Future plans
EXTERIOR
finish rust repair- small piece on the floor board and a few small sections in the floor of the bed
old school vinyl decals

INTERIOR
The interior is currently gutted-
going to reupholster original bench seat in tan vinyl
redo blue the door covers with tan color vinyl
change the color of the blue dash to tan
replace carpet with new carpet to include extra padding to help with noise and heat
sound proof doors, floor boards, and ceiling
add stereo

DRIVETRAIN
replace current tires with 33x10.5x15 BFG Mud tires
rebuild front and rear axles
add lunch box lockers

would also love to add some cool metal bumpers front and rear and some sliders

Cool truck. I used to own a rusted out 81, ended up parting it, too many projects. The A/C still worked even though the floorboards were completely rusted through. Made spotting on trails a lot easier, just look down!

Nice.
My truck is not that bad at all. Just a few small spots. It looks a lot better now that it is painted. I was going to post up more pictures this weekend but my computer is acting up. I have to load the pictures in my photobucket account but I can't right now.

I do have a question
Before putting the truck in storage. I replaced the clutch. The problem is that I cannot shift if the truck is on. Only if it is off. Any ideas what could be causing this?
What I did to put it in my storage she'd was to start it in gear and just drive it in quick since the clutch pedal would not disengage the transmission out if gear.

Clutch slave or clutch master.

Ya check your easy stuff first, the hydraulics.

What clutch did you put in? I have heard of this type of problem with some of marlins clutches. I did a clutch on a 2wd v6 truck a few years ago and had the same issue. I adjusted the master as far in /out as I could and got it to barely disengage if it was too the floor.

I think when they get really worn they get soo much play in them, and because the new clutch has so much more material the throw gets all out of whack. I would check and adjust the master if you can and then replace master or slave as needed. If all else fails, it may be the new clutch unfortunately.

Truck looks pretty good. Diggin the retro stripe! Might want to bleed the system first if you havent done that yet.

Del, nice find!

The Panhandle still treating you well?

I found the truck just south of Charlotte in South Carolina on my way to Logan's Run in Sept.

Alex,
How are you?
Yeah it's good here. I am gone most of the time though. Looking to move within the next year. 4 options are
NC, Tampa, CO, or DC. Will have to see what happens. Are you still in Japan?

Yeah, for a couple of years, then off to retirement;). May settle down in FWB or Pensacola in '17 or '18

Glad all is well:cheers:

Finally got my computer to stop acting up and got to a place that has internet so I can upload pictures to photobucket.
Frame clean up and rust proofing

cab painted and doing clean up of the underside

bed painted and cleaning the underside

bed painted black for now but have a few small spots of rust that i want to fix before it is done

with only 3 months at home a year I have to maximize family time so I usually work through the night

By the way the paint code is 033 if I remember correctly.

Rims were painted, shocks replaced and front was buttoned up for now.

Again just want to reiterate, this is by no means a finished product. All this work was an attempt to try to clean and clear up some stuff to get the truck looking decent and daily drive it (the few months that I am actually home).

bed bolted back up. Notice the old ugly metal mirrors are gone.

mirrors replaced

In the driveway next to my other projects

looks kind of small next to the LX450

As mentioned before the goal is to make the interior tan. comfortable and quiet
blue panels that I plan to recreate with tan/ sand colored vinyl

through bags of ice on the floor boards and let it sit on the factory sound deadener then just chiped at it with gasket scraper and mallet

unfortunately this is the last picture I have of the old girl

In my storage shed awaiting my return

I take pics of my vehicles for insurance purposes when I am gone but really like this photo for some reason.

Sir,
I bought a "heavy duty" clutch from advanced auto.

I am hoping that replacing the master and slave cylinder and replacing the fluid will be enough. of course I wont know until I get back home in a few months

Cruisser Outfitters? That's where I was reading to get a good kit for my '84. And For DD I'd almost go without a locker in the rear unless it's selectable. Reason is if you step on the gas while taking a corner the locker could relock and sping both tires. And the rear axle and front axle I'd suggest Marlin for those. And as for set up will you have a good trusted shop do it or try it yourself?
