And For DD I'd almost go without a locker in the rear unless it's selectable. Reason is if you step on the gas while taking a corner the locker could relock and sping both tires.

Ditto. The lunch-box locker in the back of my FJ40 sucks on pavement. Locks up on turns and chirps the tires. Out right dangerous on wet pavement, especially on turns. Great off-road, though. I wish I had installed an ARB, and will go that route some day.

Thank you for the suggestions.

I will more than likely order all my parts from Cruiser outfitters.

I can live with the lunch box lockers both in the rear and in the front. Just not sure if I need one in the front on this truck.
I daily drove my old cruiser and it had lock right lockers front and rear and never really ever noticed they were there unless I was off road or making a super tight turn in a parking lot.

My 69 FJ40 ( I miss her)

Of course I would love to get an ARB but not sure I can justify the extra $700 to $1000 (to include an air source) for this truck.

For arguments sake if I did go with an ARB would you suggest installing it in the Front or in the Rear?

As far as the gear set up and axle rebuild? I would schedule an appointment at my good friends shop on one of my trips back to NC at CANUCK's CRUISERS.
More than likely prior to this year's LOGAN'S RUN

Hopefully your diff won't grenade while you are on crutches again:flipoff2:

If you end up in HAPPYCOM in Tampa, let me know and tll meet up with my 1st Gen 4Runner

Looking good man. Glad to see you getting this thing going in the right direction.

Looks great. People are looking for those ugly mirrors, you can likely sell them for some walkin around money.

If somebody is interested in them they can have them. I like to stay in the good graces of the cruiser Gods.

I hate to say it but what are the mounting hole length and width of those mirrors? I have one that got bashed so I'm looking to replace it in my 84.

What mirrors are you gonna run?

If you look at the pics I posted the truck was bought with original metal mirrors. I shopped on line for what I believe are 2wd versions but I am not 100% sure.

I want to say that I paid like $15 for the pair off of amazon or online somewhere.

They bolted right up to the existing holes of the original mirrors. If you notice I still have the bottom nutserts from the origInal mirrors. For now I just screwed in some "Headless bolts" with lock tight, sorry can't remember the correct name for those inserts right now.

I did not delete them because I was thinking it might be a secure way to mount up a go pro camera after facing up a simple mounting bracket.

The original mirrors are in horrible shape by the way.

What are the plans for the motor? Rebuild the stock carb? And does it have a 22r or a 20r in her?

The motor is a 22R.

I believe the PO rebuilt the top end. I think I remember seeing receipts from the machine shop in the glove box. I never go the whole scoop on the truck because when I went to pick it up I only dealt with the PO's wife. He had to travel out of state on emergency or something like that.

The plans?
The carb def needs help. My buddy Daren tried to tune the carb and did the best he could. From what I have read the webers work pretty good. Might give that a try. I am not much of a mechanic but I am good at replacing stuff, so normally I just replace one system at a time.

I still have to baseline the truck. So when I go to flush the radiator I am just going to replace it with a new one and replace the hoses as well.
I believe the spark plugs, wires and distributor are all new stuff. At least they look new and the truck fires right up. Haven't really driven it. After further inspection I will replace all those as well if needed.
I Already replaced the starter and wires from the battery when I replaced the clutch.
The truck is going to need a new exhaust so I will likely put a LC engineering header while I am at it.

Barring any extreme reasons. I don't plan to sell this truck and want my sons to drive it when they get older. That is a few years away though. Having said that. Those 3RZ swaps look pretty dang cool and reliable. But that would probably be in the long future. For now I just want to get it reliable to drive to work and or mild exploring trips when the whole family does not want to or can't go.

If you go with a weber buy from lce or another weber dealer. Alsoale sure to get a fuel regulator. Honestly, I bet if I had the stock carb I wouldn't have converted to EFI. But the "weber" (fake knock off) I had was complete crap and wouldn't run right if it was cold out

Came home for a few days and was going over some of the paperwork in the glove. Found the owners guide.

Also found receipts for full engine rebuild. And fuel brake rebuild. Front and rear. Might still replace brake lines with extended steal lines once I install the OME lift. Going to call up Cruiseroutfitters and order up the drivetrain rebuild parts along with lift and gears.
Hopefully the parts will be here when I am back for good in a few months.

I am going to see if I can sneak an hour of working on the truck and replace the clutch slave and master cylinder to see if I can get the truck moving correctly.

Woohoo!

Parts ordered
Lift
4.88 gears
Third rebuild kits
Rear locker
Front rebuild kit with koyo bearings
Rear bearings and seals

Haha, just spent more than what I paid for the whole truck. It's a disease, I know.

Now I just have to schedule a date with my buddy Darin.

Darin. Will be sending you a PM shortly.

Here's just a thought but do you want to redo u-joints while changing out the gearing?

U joints on the drive shafts right?
Yeah. Good Idea. Will have to add those to the list.

Does anyone know where I can find the nuts and bolts for TOYOTA driveshafts?

Would like to have spare ones and if i remember correctly I am missing one or two.

Going to see if I can find spare driveshafts also.

Yes , and if you want true Toyota try crusierdan or Beno.

So does anyone have any experience with a 3RZ? I would really be down for doing this type of swap sooner than later.

Here are a few questions.

Is there a shop in the southeast that can handle this type of work?
What does something like this cost?
How long does it take to get something like this done?

ACC in Atlanta maybe?

Cost, a lot I am sure

Time, a while probably

:flipoff2:

The best thing you can do if you are actually serious about doing a 3rz swap is start looking for a wrecked Tacoma. Like any swap you need a lot or everything to swap. Wiring, computer, engine, fuel take with pump and lines, ect. ect

Buying parts individually will kill your wallet. Happy hunting
