My buddy had a beautiful 1982 Toyota 4x4 Custom Cab. It was amazingly clean and loved. Had a 3" OME lift. It was stolen a few nights back from his work parking lot. I told him I would do anything I could to help him get it back. That is the reason for the thread. I figured more eyes looking for it couldn't hurt. He isn't a wealthy guy by any means but loves his truck and badly wants it back. He has $500 cash he has pulled together for anyone giving him a lead that gets him to his truck. PLEASE don't do anything that would get you in harms way by checking out the stolen truck. If you see something that looks similar then pm me with some pics and I will pass them on to Chad and I'm sure he will contact you asap. It's a bright yellow and a super rare model, so i'm really doubtful there are many others out there like it. It was stolen in Loma Linda, CA but could be anywhere by now. Here's what it looks like.

I hate to say it ... but I suspect that truck is headed to Mexico. They love those solid axle Toyotas down there.

That's what I was thinking too, but I figured it couldn't hurt to at least try and find it.

I suspect as well. I drive to Tucson from Phoenix about once a week, can't tell you how many times I see 2 sets of solid axle Toyotas towing ANOTHER solid axle Toyota south. Very sad, really. I'll keep an eye out. Good Luck.

I put up some ads on craigslist yesterday morning and got a hit. I was contacted by a women in Las Vegas who said the identical truck showed up in her neighbors driveway a few days ago. I sent some detailed info that would help identify the truck and guarantee it is Chad's truck. I'm waiting to here back from her. Is there anyone is the Vegas area that could at least drive by to verify it is actually there before I call the local police? No need to even get out. Just a visual confirmation.

Any update?

She verified it's the truck and I passed it all over to Chad. He's dealing with the Vegas Police. I don't know all the details on how he will get it back. Once I have some answers I will let you guys know.

Awesome!

Glad to hear it.

That's such a rad truck. I distinctly remember going to look at one at the dealership when I was a little guy. Dad didn't buy it, but I very clearly remember checking it out at the dealership.

Tell your buddy he needs to make an account on here to start a build thread so we know all about it!

so it's time for another update. The women who found the truck was a scammer. She was lying through her teeth about the truck. Verified a bunch of stuff but in the end would not cooperate with law enforcement and demanded the cash reward BEFORE she would give up the address of the truck. She also refused to show any actual pictures of the truck. Both Chad and I were certain she had the truck near her right up until the end when it all became very apparent she was scamming everyone for some cash for another fix. gotta love the effort tweakers put into getting their next fix. Once I finally got her name I was able to google her and found a giant pile of arrest records for drug possession, drug sells, vandalism, trespassing, breaking and entering, domestic violence, and so on. She's a real winner. so at this point, I have no good leads on the truck. I have a buddy down in Mexico helping with trying to track it down below the border.

Damn.

That sucks.

She sure does sound like a winner.

Man she sounds like my ex girlfriend. I hope you guys find that truck and will be keeping my eye out for it up here in Washington

Yea man that's a bummer. I was really hoping you would get it back. I got eyes in the greater Sacramento area for ya.

Truck was recovered yesterday about 2 blocks from where it was stolen. Idiot thieves had it in their driveway and were stirpping it down. Neighbor thought something was fishy so he called the police. Most of the parts of the truck were either in his driveway, garage, or backyard but it's going to take 100's of man hours to put the truck back together. Axles, all accessories, entire front clip, grill, lights, battery, alternator, master cylinder, wheels, shocks, springs, rims, radiator, tcase, power steering pump, and a LOT more have been removed. All hard and soft lines were just cut off. Interior seats are also gone. It's depressing as hell. I went over and looked at it at the tow yard before they hauled it over to his house. He has boxes of parts and a truck bed full of parts. Looks like a pack of wolves on a kill. Not much left. I snaped a few pics. Here's one. Sorry about the crappy pics. I will try to get better pics when I head back over and start helping him figure out what parts are missing so we can get them ordered.

that's still a pretty good ending, dirtbags got caught then?
I'm assuming they are in jail. Apparently there was a few guys that had been stripping cars out of this house and then ditching them all around town. The police were quite excited to finally find their base of operation. Backyard was a mini junkyard of desirable car parts. My buddy is going over to the house tomorrow with the police to see if he can find anymore of his parts. He is realizing there are quite a few things removed that are not in the parts box or bed.

Man, if i lived closer i'd offer to help put it back together. I'm glad he got it back but its sad to see how far they got with stripping it

For a final update. Chad went over to the house and found some of his parts. Most were the easy to find/cheap to buy under the hood parts. The front clip, front axle/suspension, and the tires/rims were not recovered. They probably sold off all the valuable parts and just had all the small components left. He has enough parts in boxes now to get the engine up and running again but without a front axle it's gonna just have to sit a while. He's now looking into getting a parts truck with maybe a blown motor for the cheap and then just swapping over everything he needs. The insurance check should at least cover the cost of the parts truck plus a little more. I'm going to do my best to help him get it back on the road.

Wow! Glad to see he got it back! I would love to help put it back together too if I were closer.
