the hubs lock now at least. Still awaiting the new u-bolts, TRE's and drag link kit. Oh, and I might just buy new calipers.
Get calipers for a 93 V 6 4 wd hilux. They bolt right on, all you do is trim 1/2" from either side of the dust shield to clear them, then return your cruiser ones for the core.

You'll have to get pads for the'Lux as well. Everything else is a direct bolt-on. Dan Silbaugh talked me into doing it on Lexie and I could not believe how much better she stops now.

As far as 'turning to gold', can we assume that you will be blasting and painting that front axle housing?

I will be doing that on the 45 but I'm not keen to trim the dust shields. That's akin to cutting the rear wheel openings on this unit. She's too original to do that. I would put the V6 calipers on if I didn't have to cut anything. Are you sure it's required, I've never heard anyone mention cutting when swapping calipers.

I've been working on a rack design for my RTT

Any thoughts? I still have to add light tabs in the corners and front/back. Also a removable rear section for when the tent is not on the rack. I will be opening the tent to the rear. I also will have mounting bosses for my awning and a deck for the front section.

The larger calipers have two large pistons instead of one small and one large. 4 runner calipers of the same vintage are identical. Whether you need the extra braking power on a swb 40 is another question.

If i might share my truck's set up, I have those larger calipers on my 47, front and rear, because sometimes I carry a lot of weight and it is nice to have ample brakes. Not that the drum brakes are weak when properly set up, as they are fine, it's just the cost of replacement wear parts that moved me over to the discs all around.

That is done in Solidworks 2013. $7500 per seat. Obviously not mine, I did it at work in my "spare" time. Gonna add some details to it today and I'll post a couple more shots.

Sorry for offtopic but I'd like to hear your opinions on SW 2013 compared to 2012, is there anything new features or such that would make it worth to upgrade into 2013 from 2012?

There is a fair bit of tweeking done but very little in the sheet metal module, which is where we do 99% of our work. We have no choice but to upgrade to keep up with our customers. When I went to the rollout seminar there was mothing earth shattering, just a lot of minor upgrades

Didn't get as much time on the design today as I wanted. Something about working at work :meh:

I...

added another cross slat
changed the risers to a universal bolt patern and added more
lengthened the rack 2" so the math worked out better
added the front and rear little deck sections
added a bunch more perferations to the cross slats for weight reduction and utility
lengthend the side walls
narrowed the cross slats for better symmetry
added the awning model
etc...

Looks great. Nice to see the design ahead of time.

This is going to be like the 45 beds but a little easier:p everyone will want one...

Posted in the 40 section, do you have any measurements for the rear wheel wells, I am attempting to have some dies water jetted?

I will PM you.

Hijack over...

Looks nice, perhaps add few loops along the lower/upper rim for some gargo straps?

How heavy is that rack going to be? I've never seen so many roof clamps before...

No intentions of making more than one. Unless my brother wants one for his '71.

Well yer not lookin' hard enough then. Most I've seen have 4 sets. Some have three and some have five. I've even seen six and seven on bigger cruisers.

My reasons are simple... Firstly, they are free (to me) so I may as well get lotsa support. And B, more means less psi/ unit on my gutters.

As for weight, two adults, tent, awning in the wind, jack, shovel, axe, prybar, coupla fuel cans, duffels of gear.... Could be 800# up there. Plus the rack. I might go aluminum but I will be going thin on thickness. Hopefully good design will make it light-ish and strong.

I had time today to build a couple of gutter clamps to test on the roof. I want to see if my design works before I finalize and make them all.

I tacked the coupler nut to the one plate and bolted two gutter clamps in place. Here they are just clamped to a length of angle to check the height above the roof. There is about 1/2" of air under the crossbar.

Here is a end view of the clamp

and a side view. The size of the clamp is 8" long at the foot and 3" at the top. On my computer monitor they seemed bigger in scale than they are in reality. This photo makes it look quite big too but in person they are smaller than they seem. I think 5 sets down the side will be fine.

So does it work? Yes. But I want to make a couple changes. I want to stiffen the upper-most piece. Because it is one dimensional (flat metal) it wiggles and might fatigue over time so I will add some sort of gusset to stiffen it and eliminate the jiggling. The clamp action works great so I'll leave that alone.

33x10.5R15 BFG KM2's on stock wheels. The KM2's get real good reviews on all but ice and I know how to drive on ice. I wanted the tall skinny look for this rig and that's as skinny as you can get these days in a 15" radial. I also like the look of the tread, a little more aggressive than an AT.
