That is only the "spacer" portion between the roof and the OEM conslole for vehicles with a compass/altimiter or sub-tank. You will still need the factory piece.

Your post made me dig into my spare parts stash. I essentially have a custom overhead console compartment. It is the center section from the old visor shelf production. I have the center bracket, fiberglass center section painted brown, attachment hardware, and some grey edge welting. The good thing is the cutout is sized for the NA market overhead panel so you don't have to source a subtank style panel. I'm going to post in classifieds shortly but I'll give you first dibs if you are interested. I'll try to attach some pics showing the parts that I have. Pretty cool.. I have a JDM console on mine.. I ultimately wish I could do an outback console like I had on my 90 series... But we have the sunroof.

Very cool! I'd be interested in one of those! Having a sunroof is cool, but I've always wanted to do a full width console solution.

I like the full length horizontal option. I think a guy could probably fab something fairly easy and use the mirror and sunroof controls mounting points as mounting points for the shelf. I wonder how low you could go before in inhibits your vision.

The other option is to get a ham radio that has a removable face.

The new yaesu ftm 500 has this with a front facing speaker.

Then use my ram balk mount.

Over head Ram mount. This mounts into existing threads used in overseas models for the 2nd Gas tank, Altimeter or Compass. This will include a template to you know where to add holes. I know this mounts to the 1995-1997 not positive out the earlier years yet... but pretty sure.
