Those kinds of knives are all living in jeeps. Benchmades are kind of like landcruisers. They are made for real use in real world environments.Too many expensive Benchmades in this thread. What is this? The 200 forum? I need to see some of the 80 series knives. You know the ones I'm talking about. The "I found this one abandoned sticking out of the mud, it was rusted over and wouldn't open. I took it apart, used an electrolysis process to remove the rust, oiled it up and sharpened it on my stone and then put it all back together. It's the most badass knife on the trail now and will cut through anything!" Where's those?![]()

Reach out to Benchmade. I've heard good things about their Customer Service.I have a 940 as well, special edition titanium gray color handle. I lost the rear standoff screw years ago and the standoff fell out. For the life of me I cant find a replacement anywhere.
To keep it tech:How is this tech for an 80?
Stuff your K-Bar in your Speedo and swim on over the Chat.
Great point. I've heard the S40V is a pain to sharpen but holds an edge a lot longer than 154CM. I've sharpened my Benchmade to shaving sharp but tend to use my knife for everything and lose the edge quickly.I am noticing a trend with the Benchmades, they are well made production knives.
I fell into this same thought trap. But I have owned, used and sharpened a lot of knives. I have come to a personal realization that I would rather have a steel that is easy to sharpen by hand in the field and still holds a good edge.
I love 154cm when it is properly heat treated. I have a couple of 440 stainless bucks from the 60's and 70's that also are very easy to sharpen but hold an edge very well. So much of a steel's performance depends on how well the heat treat was done.
I have noticed that different steels seem to sharpen differently. For example I feel like a well forged and heat treated O1 carbon blade likes sharpen to a very toothy edge that just seems to slice flesh better than other steels even when sharpened to the same angles.
Keep them coming everybody, and remember pictures need to include the 80 series or it didn't happen.
