lol, you made ME go check it :p

My socket didn't fit so I just figured it was a bigger size and used a Crescent wrench because, of course, I don't carry a 13mm.

DYK, if you are balanced on top of a mountain, in a precarious position, your seatbelt inertial reels will lock up and not release?

I have no idea how this works, but it did it to us twice, yesterday.

I got out of the rig to take this picture, and could NOT get my seatbelt to extend again, so had to drive off this position unbelted. Just a few feet further, and the seatbelt released so I could belt up again.

Did you know you can force your '93-'94 ECU into a diagnostic mode? It runs a deeper level of system checks than it does in normal operation, and you can get it to check all the systems immediately instead of driving 50-75 miles like it normally would take.

Force?

Jumpering two of the ports in the service box pushes the ECU into a "Test" mode, causing it to immediately check all of the systems; including some that don't normally get checked.

I am working out some CEL issues and found this in the '94 troubleshooting manual - I had no idea and was getting frustrated because I would make a change, then I had to drive it for several days to see if the CEL came back. Apparently you dont have to do that.

For some of you guys this may be old news, it was brand new info for me.

Excuse me for being lazy, but is there an App out there for tracking maintenance specific for the 80 community? (I haven't looked) Something that includes maintenance recommendations, service schedules, etc?

Seems like this section of "Did You Knows" would fit nicely within an App that lets you track maintenance work. Perhaps with a feature that would let you photograph parts tickets and such

I am using exactly what you are asking for.

Been using it for a few years with no issues...HTH

I'd be willing to perform review/editing on any prepublication versions...

;)

OK I read all 28 pages and it was quite enjoyable. I have one to add. DYK that your side mirrors have a small compartment that you can use to store stuff. Look for the black plastic cover underneath but I wouldn't exactly call it a great use of this space as the cover might fall off...

* Did you know a shakey side mirror can be fixed with JB Weld or zip ties!

* Did you know if you have aluminum wheels then the lug nuts should be hand torqued to 76ft. Lbs. Religiously?
you can also use sikaflex in your mirrors ..just small dab will do

DYK if you're not careful when putting you new radiator in you will get to do it twice :-(. All metal radiator otw

yep...been there...done that...won't be repeating that nonsense again...

Did you know that fzj80/hzj80/hdj80 radiator caps are interchangeable with fzj105/hzj105 caps and the 105 series caps have a higher pressure rating. 16psi vs 13psi.

This is from eBay research of radiator caps. Haven't tried it yet. Could be handy for those running turbos or super chargers, I am going to try this and redline water wetter when I get home.

Did you know on the earlier 80's that there is a setting between outside air and recirculating air? I just realized this a couple days ago.
