Whaaa I thought it would be plain. I feel more comfortable removing that crap now.
Yeah, I wouldn't have expected this at all! wow! The newer stuff is mostly Hydrographics for wood-grain. I don't believe it comes off like the old vinyl wraps and it would be bare plastic underneath.

It's the Lexus touch!

My fake wood was very difficult to remove, even in the hot Florida weather. I had to use a tool to pry it. I was careful and it still scratched some of the plastic. I finally got it off and then decided to just order new fake wood. Otherwise, it meant replacing expensive Oak parts. I went with a lighter wood and it looks pretty good. Period correct for 1996. Just like the Gold trim pieces, they seem dated, but things have a way of coming back in style.

I was prompted to post that "Did you know that there are two pry points for large screwdrivers, to separate the upper pan from the block?" They are located toward the rear of the engine, and help separate the pan without marring the mating surfaces.

And when you power wash your pan on the driveway, you can make modern art?

Try a heat gun?

The inside of the engine bay has a towel holder.

I was cleaning the spark plugs tonight and was looking for the large towel I usually throw over the fender to keep it from getting scratched by the buttons and zippers on my clothes when I realized I could use this black pad thing to clamp a microfiber cloth to the side.

What worked for me was removing all the trim pieces that had wood, like the center console, Ash tray, the stereo fascia, and door switch covers and soaking them in my bathtub with very hot water and Dawn. After about 5-10 minutes they all just peel right off. I have oak as well and love it without the wood in the truck. Heat gun on the dash parts, being careful not to melt the surrounding dash pad. Worked like a charm!

What about print on demand publishing? Like Lulu?

Btw, I talked to a rep at Lulu.com earlier today.

The pricing is reasonable considering what I am thinking of producing. I have so many sections designed already that I really need to start putting it all together. The fact that I can print as few as ONE is huge. I'd likely print batches of 25 so the cost would reduce accordingly. Thanks a bunch for the suggestion.

As I get closer to building what I have in my head I will look to this forum for some feedback to be sure it's something everyone would be proud to own.

Not sure if this is in here. But tested on both my 80 and 4R (99), while the headlights left on will switch off when you open the driver door, my rigs won't with the other doors.

Long story short, hopped in the passenger real quick to get warm, started the truck, headlights came on as should be, exited the truck passenger side and shut the door. Headlights remained on. So there is one way to kill your battery. lol doh.

OK folks, so there is a project I've been working on in the background and I'm getting to that point where I need to get some input and of course it will help out the community here as well. After the success of my switch re-label thread and I figured it would be time for the next thing.

Now realize ahead of time that part of this is self serving. I am working on a project that is geared toward my own product line...that I have yet to announce :flipoff2:...but I have decided to gear it more to help all 80 series owners which means I will be including far more than just what I am developing. I'll have more info on that coming soon.

In the meantime there is a major component that I need the 80 community to assist me with and it can then also remain its own thread, similar in vain to the "Best Under $100 Mod" thread. What I am looking to warehouse are all of the "did you know?" nuggets of info. I am intending on having a different "did you know?" nugget of info on every other page on the project I am working on.

I will be doing the majority of the writing and all of the drawings. Links are 100% useful both to me but also to the community. I am specifically looking for information that someone who is NOT a LandCruiser expert would need to know or find extremely interesting or useful.

I will be posting up each nugget of info as I draw them up so that there can be a single source of "UhDuh" information for the newbies. Basically I want a cheat sheet for someone who just bought an 80 series where all of this kind of stuff is all in one place because right now you have to hunt like mad on this forum to find the nuggets of info. I want to remedy that.

Attached is what I have been doing. These are the collection of just what I have so far so you can get an idea of what I'm thinking will best benefit the 80 community. Any and all suggestions are helpful but not all will make it into my side project.

Edit: I changed the format to give me better options for displaying the info. Here are two I just created. All of the text and links still needs to be verified.

WHEN WILL THIS BE AVAILABLE or where can I find it?

One more for tonight. If anyone know anything on the truck that violates this, please let me know. I will change the drawings to better match the style.View attachment 1052686
Not sure if this is covered in one of the 27 pages, but the bolt that holds the windshield wiper arms is an odd one. I think it's a 13.

Did you know you can straighten a tie rod that is bent 3 different ways by hanging a steel rim off your winch bumper. Running the winch cable through the center of the rim and use the winch to pull it back straight? Use vice grips wedged against the rim to keep the rod from turning, don't try to hold it with your hands. May also work with links but I have not tried that yet!

edit, with the tie rod off that is.

Yeah, this requires video, and maybe back story.
