OK folks, so there is a project I've been working on in the background and I'm getting to that point where I need to get some input and of course it will help out the community here as well. After the success of my switch re-label thread and I figured it would be time for the next thing.

Now realize ahead of time that part of this is self serving. I am working on a project that is geared toward my own product line...that I have yet to announce :flipoff2:...but I have decided to gear it more to help all 80 series owners which means I will be including far more than just what I am developing. I'll have more info on that coming soon.

In the meantime there is a major component that I need the 80 community to assist me with and it can then also remain its own thread, similar in vain to the "Best Under $100 Mod" thread. What I am looking to warehouse are all of the "did you know?" nuggets of info. I am intending on having a different "did you know?" nugget of info on every other page on the project I am working on.

I will be doing the majority of the writing and all of the drawings. Links are 100% useful both to me but also to the community. I am specifically looking for information that someone who is NOT a LandCruiser expert would need to know or find extremely interesting or useful.

I will be posting up each nugget of info as I draw them up so that there can be a single source of "UhDuh" information for the newbies. Basically I want a cheat sheet for someone who just bought an 80 series where all of this kind of stuff is all in one place because right now you have to hunt like mad on this forum to find the nuggets of info. I want to remedy that.

Attached is what I have been doing. These are the collection of just what I have so far so you can get an idea of what I'm thinking will best benefit the 80 community. Any and all suggestions are helpful but not all will make it into my side project.

Edit: I changed the format to give me better options for displaying the info. Here are two I just created. All of the text and links still needs to be verified.

Im from the diesel side 80 but still looks like an 80 kind of sort of , alot of parts only availible from the diesel are considered an upgrade over a gasser and visa versa. Interchanability swap out ability might be a nice touch too.

This is a great idea Joey! Kudos to you and thanks for giving back to the Cruiser Community!

How about a "Baslining your rig" FAQ or Guide. Or a "I've purchased an 80, now what do I do?" with a list of things to do such as baseline and basic maintenance. This would be incredibly helpful and might save some breakdowns (or 1FZE HG failures :flipoff2:). I know I had to dig quite a bit and ask a lot of questions to figure this stuff out.

Or a "Did you know" for certain known issues that drastically negatively impact fuel efficiency (O2 sensors, plugged cats, EGR, PCV, etc...).

As it seems mods are on the list here are a few:

- OEM hand throttle
- OEM dash cup holder
- OEM passenger grab handle
- OEM snorkel
- OEM pintle hook/ mounting holes
- OEM second battery holder
- OEM supercharger
- OEM fuel sub tank
- OEM horn upgrade (200 series?)
- OEM steering box pitman arm upgrade (100 series)
- OEM winch
- OEM dirty filter indicator symbol (dash - not used)
- OEM tool kit pouch insert (plastic)

Other mods:

- headlight bulb upgrade
- misc LED interior bulb upgrade
- alternator upgrade
- driver's seat extension mod
- rear seat recline mod

OBD1 Check Engine Light Codes

Did you know

1. With the key OFF, jump the E1 and TE1 terminals in the underhood diagnostics box with a paperclip (small black box located on passenger side firewall)
2. Turn the key to the ON position, do NOT start the engine.
3. Count how many times the CEL blinks, I.E. code 25 would be two flashes, a pause, then five flashes, repeat. If there is more than one code, there will be a longer pause between codes.
4. To clear the codes, remove the EFI fuse for 15 minutes, then replace it.

Simple upgrade - Toyota branded leather Owner's Manual pouch with room for a moleskine maintenance record book (and receipts). Preferably in the classic Toyota dark brown with Toyota Kanji logo. Who the f#€? wouldn't buy this!?

Haha, although cool, not what I was going for.

I'm looking for the "holy crap I had no idea" little nuggets of info found within 68,000 threads on the 80s section that only the few who have read thru it all know about and gets discussed every so often.

* Like, did you know that there are no 13, 15 or 18mm bolts or nuts used anywhere on the 80 series?

* Did you know there is the tuna can under the air filter housing?

* Did you know that thing behind the bumper mounted on the frame rail is the HVAC's outside ambient temp sensor?

Etc etc

OEM power outlet box (under hood)
OEM window bars
Window switch lighting
OEM Fender blinkers
Disco lights
OEM Overhead console altimeter/compass or subtank + visors
OEM Rear fogs
OEM Headlight washers
OEM Headlamp level adjusters (power)
Matrix 115v power outlet
OEM tire carrier
OEM pillar ladder

Yeah everyone seems to be focused on mods and less on the knowledge.

Hey stop quoting... Still editing. Didn't know what all you planned to cover.

I'm still not clear on what year (if any) window switches had backlighting on all of the switches.

Did you know that the sunroof has an alarm when it is in the tilted open position and the key is removed from the ignition?

If you don't hear it, you have a sensor out. (Jury is still out on whether the 97s have this.)

Probably not 80 specific enough but man it helped when i bought my first one...

Did you know you can register with Toyota Owners and pull your vehicle's service records (done by toyota) by providing your VIN in your vehicle profile.
