he sure does have a bunch. he probably bought a bunch planning to sell for a few extra bucks. $30 a wheel is what i paid and that’s worth just the tire to me even if i never use the rim. i think they’ll be good on my trailer though and i need new tires for it anyway.

just got back from a 7000km round trip with my family driving the fj62 to the grand canyon and back. just got home today. while traveling through utah i stopped by cruiser outfitters and dropped off a diff for an ARB locker. a week later picked it up on my way home. now i have two lockers in 4:56 diffs for the 40. time to get to work on it again!

started to install my fuel tank. i might have to move my rear axle forward just a bit. i’ve only got about 4 inches of travel before i hit the skid plate. ☹️

when i move the axle forward to the middle home on the spring perch then i have 5.5 inches. this will probably increase a little as i tighten the tank against the tub when i eventually get it on! i think that’ll have to do. that would be compression of the whole axle. i’d have way more flex of one side at a time

i also put my clutch slave cylinder on with an advance adapter bracket.

it came with this spring. am i just supposed to bend it to make my own length of spring? there’s no formal hole one the bracket for the spring so i assume they figure i’ll just come up with some place to put it and them make the length i need?

I've got the Downey tank as well. Guess I'll find out how mine fits!

How did you check travel while it's in the shop? Only way I figured is to disassemble spring pack and just have the one main leaf so you can compress

haven’t really tested travel yet. i’ve been setting it up with the purpose of getting good droop and ill have to limit up travel with bump stops i think. my oil pan will be a limiting point and the downey tank might. from eyeball i’ll have clearance from the tank but this is one thing i’ll have to look at more this spring. i have a friend with a tractor so i’ll have him come over pull it out of the shop and test the travel

kinda stalled out right now. it’s been a cold winter and my shop suck for heat. instead of truck work i started playing with my winch i have earmarked for it. i bought it a few years back and it’s been sitting on my shop floor until i got the guts to tear into it. i’ve never taken one apart before. it actually wasn’t that tough.

the winch warm 8274. i paid $500 including the 9.5xp motor. the PO had already welded in a fill and drain plug. the oil was pretty new with no water in it. the gears are all i. good shape. only the one nearing surface has some pitting. i just ordered a splined pinion gear part number 98380. i’ll have to get a brake service kit and lower housing seal kit. the upper bearing and needle bearing looked new. i’m going to clean it up and paint it and then i’ll look for an albright contactor and then i might do synthetic rope. we’ll see. it was nice being in the shop again

lol. no wonder they’re so hard to find around here!! you’ve got them all!!

i’m hoping that i only need one good one. i do actually have another one on my other 40. i’ll play with it this summer a bit to see if it works

You would be surprised there are alot around lol. The key is to find guys who have them sitting in the corners of there shops for 20 years collecting dust! Lol For some reason i seem to always buy them in pairs.

i’m sure there are. i know of a few on broncos just north of saskatoon. they were a popular winch and for good reason. i only need the two i have for now anyway. ill put a more modern winch on my 62 some day. looking forward to the weather warming up a little so i can get painting some parts. ill get the case cleaned up tonight and then maybe pull my tranny out again. i didn’t realize i needed to set the shims on my starter before installing the tranny. so two steps forward one step back as they say!

i hate aftermarket starters. they just never fit right. i shimmed and adjusted and shimmed and adjusted. i had to grind some of the mounting block and by the time i got all that done i needed to chase the holes with a tap for the bolts. what a pain!! well it’s on and has proper clearances. now to put the transmission back together!

Looking good!!! I lucked out with my Ford V-10 starter and have never had a problem (knock on wood!!!!).

When you get it cranked, let me know how much vibration you have. I'm using the same type of universal mounts, but one day I may need to drill them, or go back to the MBZ OEM types with some sort of restraint system to keep them from tearing up off road.

Oh, and because it's staring me in the face in your picture, make sure you have clearance between the OEM oil filter housing and the parking brake cable. That's the one interference problem I have and it makes oil filter changes a PITA! I would go to an external filter, but it's the only way I've seen these engines consistently killed.

i do have a remote filter mounting system that will use the OEM filter housing. i planned on running that and mounting the filter on the frame or somewhere more easily accessed.

bad idea?

winch rebuilds are covered a bunch so i won’t go into detail. i’m fixing up my 8274 so thought i’d throw a few photos in. i also bought a bench top metal brake so ill hopefully start bending up some metal this week if i can go get some to make a fan shroud. i’ve been a little stuck on that so i figured ill just make one that fits where i need it to fit and just be done with it!! it’s warm enough finally to start some painting also so maybe i can get some more engine accessories back on too.
