to use POR or a spray paint? i don’t have a spray gun to use with POR
I dumped por15 into a cheap weed sprayer. Thinned it with paint thinner, and shot the inside of my frame using the wand on the sprayer to get deep into the frame. It didn't create a show car finish and had some runs. But I got 100% coverage. Not super necessary over galvanizing.

did you have your frame acid washed before galvanizing or did you just sandblast it? Any concerns about those seams or mated surfaces that you can't get at?

yep so it was blasted then acid dipped then hot dip galvanized. it did a pretty good job. there are a few spots along the seams that had some burned in crusty junk that i scraped out but i think there’s zinc under it. i painted those areas and sealed everything up so that’s the best i can do. only thing more i could have done would have been to separate the frame and the rivet or bolt it back together which i’m not prepared to do!

second coat POR tonight. i was thinking that i’d try to get inside all the frame rails but that’s nearly impossible with a sponge brush. what i think i’ll end up doing is getting a black spray paint that matches the POR and just spray it so it’s black. the galvanized metal will prevent the rust. i just don’t think ill have enough POR left over to drag a rag through it at coat it. if i do have enough then i’ll try but for now that’ll be my plan

I have some stuff from Eastwood for inside frame rails. Comes with a bit of hose to get in there and spray

primed the inside of the frame rails yesterday. i’m going to sand the POR in areas of view and then top coat it tonight. there are a few areas where it formed a drip that i want to smooth out then paint.

i’m a little worried about front clearance of my engine now that i have the crank pulley on. i made the mistake of doing all the drive line positioning with the engine without all the accessories thinking that the fan would be the limiting point forward. now i worry that i didn’t leave enough too. for the crank pulley but it’ll be close. i might still have some rad support modifications to do. i’m anxious to get the frame back on the springs and axles to see where that’ll sit.

in the mean time i went for a ride with
my kids in red again after a big downpour. found a few puddles to go through. i also found some major leaks in the firewall. i have a waterfall of muddy water come in from behind the heater!! now i know why all the drain holes in the floor! oh well. ill start playing with that one once the engine is finished and i have some shop room again!!...

here’s the self etching primer after 400 sanding

Looking good brother! Won't be long now!

@DPV7070 can you tell me what goes in the threaded holes on the drivers (pump) side of the block right in front and behind the 4 bolts for the motor mount?

so far tonight..

once i get the body, bumpers etc to put full weight on it ill have to take the axles off one more time. i’m waiting to do the turn of the knuckle balls once i have full weight on it. then i’ll paint them and build them with seals etc

first i have to convince my wife to let me get a new 3/4 tub sooner than later!!

I'm fairly certain that they are hold downs/supports for the oil cooler lines where they run underneath the motor mount.

thanks. they in deed do look like that. ill be mounting my oil filter in a remote location so won’t likely be routing those lines there anymore.

atlas in tonight and engine actually bolted in place. its funny after all effort to get things to fit properly there’s always something that gets missed. one of my motor mounts was too tight against the bracket. i had to squish the metal base a little to make it fit. at least it went on.

i’m also trying to assemble small engine stuff to get the piles of parts to start shrinking before ordering new piles.

so i was reading my early posts and may 2014 is when i started cutting into my frame. at that time i was worried about gaining too much height with a spring over compared to shackle reversal. i made a measurement back then showing 17 inches between axle tube and bottom of the frame. i went an measured today and with all the changes i’ve made im 16.5 inches above the axle. that’s excellent as far as i’m concerned for a spring over. i liked the height it rode at before so this should be pretty similar...just better!

little more side track this week but got a little more of reds engine buttoned up

i’m also playing with a third row seat in my 62

bought a nearly new set of 16 inch split rims and tires for $150. not sure how big of a tire i can put on but if they dont work on this 40 i might put them on the other one or use them on my military trailer. i couldn’t pass up the deal though

ha ha ha doh!! i didn’t realize they were five bolt. a friend got them off the mine cruisers (not a kijiji buy)!! i figured they’d be a 6 bolt. i guess they’ll be perfect for my trailer then!! it’s five bolt. he’s a cruiser guy himself so i figured he’d have said something when he asked if i wanted them. i didn’t even know that toyota made 5 bolt when i said yes

they would have looked awesome though. oh well
