so i went to do an EGR delete tonight only to find out mine doesn’t have an egr! could have sworn it would have being a north american car it came out of. it got me thinking though that i believe a previous owner actually imported it from europe. so that was easy. if there’s anyone out there running one of these engines i have an EGR delete kit for sale now!!

more painting and bolt organizing. i also made a block off plate to remove the SLS (self levelling suspension) pump. it’s a hydraulic pump these cars used to level the suspension. i don’t need it. this engine has a ton of little parts i forgot about!! hope i don’t have anything important left over!!

more painting. man there are a lot of little brackets and bolts to sand blast and paint. it’s tedious to say the least. i don’t have the frame back yet so i’ve got some time to play with. i want this to look good

plus it’s been 4 years since i took the engine apart. now i’m trying to figure where i put everything and how it all goes back together. but each part that goes on is one less i have to figure out what it is!!

yes hot dipped. i’m going to give it a brass brushing, then metal prep by POR15 to etch it then POR15. i’ve got some work ahead of me tonight

Awesome! That frame will be around for a century.....Thanks for the sharing.

I've been thinking of how the hell to coat the inside of my frame, but it isn't really needed with galvanizing. Are you coating the inside with POR too? It would be belt and suspenders.....

I may do a similar process if I can find someone that does galvanizing in my area.

i’m going to try to coat the inside really more as aesthetics. you’re right about belt and suspenders. it only cost about $700 usd to sand blast and coat it so i think the value is there for sure

Nice man. I've always wondered if a 40 tub would handle hot dip. That frame will be around for a while. Dont forget to chase out the threaded holes.

yeah i’ll chase them all and then use some anti seize. i don’t think a body would tolerate it. it gets pretty hot and likely would warp. it also leaves a pretty rough surface believe it or not so it wouldn’t be a pretty body. i’m going to use aqualu thanks to you!!

Oh cool. 3/4 tub or full tub?

just 3/4 tub i think. my cowl is in really good shape. just the bed, fenders and rear sill really eaten away

second coat POR tonight. i was thinking that i’d try to get inside all the frame rails but that’s nearly impossible with a sponge brush. what i think i’ll end up doing is getting a black spray paint that matches the POR and just spray it so it’s black. the galvanized metal will prevent the rust. i just don’t think ill have enough POR left over to drag a rag through it at coat it. if i do have enough then i’ll try but for now that’ll be my plan

so far i’m pretty happy with how it’s turned out. again not a smooth finish but this isn’t a show truck. it’s gonna last!! for those that are thinking of galvanizing here’s a close up of the surface.
