Eager to see all that chocolate with some cream drizzled on it.

Crazy good work. Not a color I would’ve chosen but I’d still like to see it in person some day.

I think as I get get older my senses in some area are becoming duller. Seeing a striking vivid color or contrast stimulates something in my brain that may light up its cortex…

My rustic green is nice but with a gloss like your brown, it would liven it up significantly. I will likely break out a polisher and some 3M finesse- it this summer and gloss it up a touch.

Red seems to be a universal stimulant, I love that mustard yellow and horizontal blue …but that’s me

The Jewel colors are striking, reds, blues, greens golds etc etc. The 1st LC I ever saw in the “wild” was gold. Really good story I may put to pen one of these days. I never forgot it..

I think it’s a color most would avoid given options…😂

Very few brown, 414 or 415, 40 series were produced.

It just struck me as something that could be made agreeable. If not appealing in the traditional sense, maybe something unexpected and out of the box.

I really enjoy the jewel colors. But, my personal favorites have always been the “Earth Tones”. Dune Beige for the iconic 40 series trailing dust in any remote habitat on the planet. So, IMHO, this “Brown” is just an extension of the Dune, only dirtier..🙄

Wow what a nice color and nicely applied.
👍🏽

It’s one of those “you either love it or you hate it” colors…doesn’t seem to be very much middle ground on this one…😁

The application by the boys in the booth at RC is top shelf. So thankful for a quality shop in my backyard.

It looks great, the white details wil highlight it even more.
Some lighter candy brown diamond plate accents….🤔
Are you going to protect some of that paint with ppf?

We’re talking about some options. That’s out of my wheel house. I’m unfamiliar with the options, so I’m digging around on the inter-webs trying to educate myself. Just not sure at this point the direction I’ll go..

When ever I’ve purchased a new vehicle in the past, I always looked forward to the first bump, bruise, scratch, rub or dent. That was always my cue to quite worrying about it. The newness evaporates instantly, you curse a few choice well rehearsed phrases and get on with your life. I’ll really enjoy the newness while it lasts and patiently wait the day a 400lb supermarket debutant crashes a cart into an unprotected fender. Probably keep a Guinness in the glove box to celebrate…😎

My opinion is that it’ll totally come together with whatever flavor of Cygnus you go with for the roof and bezel. If you went all brown for everything my opinion would be much different 😉.

I, too, am a fan of the mellow earth tones. I wouldn’t have chosen Rustic Green, but that was the color when the cruiser landed in my lap.
If I ever do a full on resto, I’d likely go back with Rustic Green and replicate the gold pin stripes just to be respectful of the trucks heritage. Or I really love mustard and the green/brown baby poo…

I’m very far from that so, I’ll rock the patina and OG color and attend to the stuff that counts now.

Still, your 40 is radical and if you’d painted it rainbow I’d still appreciate that you are reinvigorating YOUR truck how YOU want.

I may just rock these short skinnies…🤣

Things are going back together.

The guy that laid the paint on that tub has some mad skills. It’s apparent he could make any color look good.

I think it was “Wilson the Viking”. Tagging RC for the fact check.

Yup, that was Wilson. He definitely has skills and probably has more time behind the gun than most. His background is in collision (has a Toyota cert from way back among most others) but also worked in a commercial paint line for a well known truck accessory manufacturer.

The final product in a job like this is the result of the meticulous prep. All the way back to the hours of wirewheeling the bare aluminum, it was also wet sanded prior to the first coat of base color.

@70fj40

“Wilson” for the win….

Impressive work for sure. It speaks well for a shop that actually puts out that kind of work. That kind of prep work is expensive and takes time. Many shops won’t dedicate that kind of time and attention because it takes away from other quicker money jobs.
I can’t wait to this beauty in its inaugural pic in Barbie Garage!

@Chungas Revenge Just re-reading the comments about the Person who applied your paint and that is spot on. I remember going to car gatherings and looking at paint that was just so impeccably applied that the color was 3rd or 4th in the appeal.

Many years ago the Englishtown Raceway Park and a show for Garage trucks, tow trucks, and heavy commercial road equipment. Between amazing paint combo and chrome stuff, these vehicles were breath taking for car people. Maybe not my thing but I could certainly appreciate the skill it took to get this so perfectly.

My own FJ45 is a Toyota paint color. Not one I actually am in love with but it was applied beautifully and is an eye-catching feature when you first approach the truck

Your FJ40 will turn heads for a lot of years looking like that

Love the orange..!!!

If I were to do a Frankenbuild 40 or 45, “Orange” is on my short list via @archie73 inspiration.

You definitely won’t loose it in the woods..😉

@Chungas Revenge Thank you….it is known as #541-Yellow. YELLOW? REALLY? That truck has been in the garage since September sipping casually on a 5A battery maintainer. I can’t wait to take it out. Looking forward to the day when I can step on the clutch to move it. Physical therapy just left and going to orthopedic surgeon tomorrow

The depth of reflection in your ‘brown” sets it off from a lot of colors. It stimulates the eye, ( the look of melted chocolate) the nose (them smell of chocolate) and inspires the taste of a chocolate candy bar…..all at the same time. 3 out of 5 is great. Sorry for the descriptive visuals…. We had a blast in the 1960’s 🤣

I’ve been stuck in the house for 2 weeks so bear with me….

If you really could imagine the very first Land Cruiser transformation I’d ever seen, it was 51 years ago. My friend bought a new beige ‘73 FJ40 and by early 1974 he has a custom show paint job in Black lacquer with silver sparkles with hood and side panels of HOT PINK Peter Max type murals and blow dots. The full roll cage was hot pink, chrome 8 spoke wheels and Armstrong Tru-Trak tires…33’s if I remember. I really will try to find some pictures of that one

That was the inspiration for my decision to buy my ‘74 in ‘74. Loved the truck…. His color was peculiar to say the least. No hiding from anyone in that truck

Thanks for the kind words. Now I’m looking for a Snickers Bar…

LOL- Nope you’re not hiding or robbing any banks in that LC…🤣

I gotta give credit to the FJ Compay for the Buffalo brown inspiration. We just went two shades down the scale to a darker version. I’ve seen a couple Brown 40 series, Pueblo brown and Buffalo brown over the years on MUD.
Always intrigued by the earth tone colors. With the decision to use an Aq tub I could go outside the normal color palate.
