Postman brought a bag of smalls. Bronze bushings for the spare-tire carrier (thanks Alex) , Hardware for the ambi door access panel, gaskets for the door/hardtop interface and a rubber hood rest for the hard-top..

I ran into a problem when re-assembling the ASCO hubs. New Toyota rubber gaskets were added to the selector as part of the hub re-hab...With the Toyota gaskets in place the selector would not seat properly in the hub cover or turn CW or CCW. Two hours of frustration ensued as every conceivable theory was debated, executed and scraped...At the height of the frustration, I managed to launch one of the detent balls into the upper stratosphere.

Turned to the forum as the detent ball made it's way toward the outer moons of Jupiter.
Found a thread that looked promising:

"ASCO Locking Hubs - trouble reassembling"

BLUF: Two pages into the thread I found what I was looking for. Quick trip to ACE Hardware ensued. For the princely sum of $1.58, I had two #65 O-Rings (9D0035779B).

less than five minutes to install = Problem solved.

I lost one of the detent balls while I was rebuilding my hubs about 5 years ago, I found that stupid ball 2 summers later, literally right in the middle of my garage floor while I was sweeping. Luckily I had a spare hub to rob from during the rebuild.
 
If I rebuild more than 1 of something like that , I buy spare balls at the bearing supplier and keep them around . So far , have a small bag of them for the Suzuki Aisin hubs , 3 different bags for Weber carb check valves and a couple bags that I forget what they were for - I like having spare balls ...but I'm getting old too .
Nothing worse than a ball or spring that shoots out - ricochet's off your eyeglasses and takes over a full second to hit something else clear across the shop , never to be seen again . Weber choke linkage e-clips are notorious for it , black and I have only ever found one again at a later time . Bet I've gone through 30 of those so far....

It was a frustrating couple of hours...But, I found a couple spares via an E-net vendor. Should be here MON-TUE.

There was a moment where it teetered on fixing it with a really big hammer!!! I did manage to find the spring. Must have jettisoned during stage one separation...

I saw your post on the "O-ring thread". Best I can figure is variations in the locking mechanism or the O-ring itself...The Ace hardware solution seems to work perfectly. I'll pack a little extra grease "just because".
 
the problem arises, when the wife adopts the same mantra......

This could go in a "whole lotta'" directions...
 
I thought I would post up the specs on the ASCO Hub, "Ace O-Ring solution". # 65 = 1-7/8" OD x 1 3/4" ID (1/16" wall).

Not taking credit for the discovery, but I figure someone else may run into the same situation.

Working a little detail on the hubs. 1st coat turned out OK-ish. I'll hit these with some clear later.

Hit the hub cover(s) and dial(s) with another coat of paint. Scuffed the black then added two coats of clear using a VHT "clear wheel paint". I'll let everything dry before reassembling the hubs. Waiting on one clutch/lockout gear to finish up the prior to the install.
