i have a 74 fj40 with the stock f.5 motor.
it has a crack in the head.
i have looked around for a new head for it....no luck so far.
i have found a 2f motor for 500 bucks the owner says it was running when it was pulled.
so what would you do?
keep looking for a head or go with the 2f or ????????????????

im in the seattle area.

thanks for any input.

If you are otherwise happy with the power and performance of the f.5, then stick it out. You certainly haven't tried ALL the cruiser vendors.;)

My F engine'd trucks consistently get 1.5-2mpg better than the 2Fs. And they are all well-tuned.:smokin:

I would ask the owner of the 2F if he is ok with pulling the oil pan and valve cover. It should be pretty apparent if it was taken care of. Inspect the the spark plugs as well. I would be mentally prepared to accept that there ids a chance you are paying $500 for a core.

i would think the slightly smaller displacement plays into that.

i know some of the heads swap back and forth, but i'm not versed enough to say which ones fit where. a quick search will reveal those answer however.
personally i would dump the broke 1.5 and just go with a good running 2f.

I'm thinking ill buy the 2f.
can anyone tell me if the intake, header, fuel pump, water pump are the same as the 1.5 and 2f?

no it didn't work out dude had promised it to someone:( and torfab has 2f and 1f heads but no 1.5.
does anyone know if the distributer on 1.5 and 2f is the same?

I'm not sure the 61040 head from the 87 will work on the F1.5 engine. I believe the '74 has domed pistons so you need an open chambered head, not the closed chamber of the 61040, but I've never had the head off my '74 so ...

As stated, you should call Mark (vendor in post #4), when he's back in town - He's got a whole row of F engines in the back of his shop!

The dizzy will work.

when i swap the 2f into my early fj40s i use all the parts from the early engine on the 2f that way all the basic parts go with the year of the truck ,may be a step backward for some folks but its worked for me for many years ,when i say early its 68 to 73 or 74 that usually get the 2fs around here .sometimes that means not using the oil cooler but i never missed it

I have a complete 74 f.5 engine I need to move down the road... ran when pulled and has been stored inside since

within the next week will likely pull the head and accy's and scrap the lower end

would sell as a unit for $400 or so, or just the head for maybe $200, or figure something out with you

catch is its in des moines IA

pm me with email and I can send pics

2F has domed. 1.5F has flat tops. Here is a shot of the pistons and the head casting number 61030.
