My daily is a Jeep CRD with the 2.8l 4-cyl diesel and I converted an Isuzu Trooper to factory 2.8l 4-cyl diesel power about 15 years ago. The characteristics of diesels this size/configuration make them a great choice for an application like the 55 series. One of the few engines I would consider re-powering with.

I was concerned about being enough power fully loaded. Mine tops the scales @ 8,000 pounds.

Around here, the real four-letter word is “salt” which is why I drive this in the winter and not my Toyotas.
