the ac install was a nightmare. its the vintage air fj40 series II system that I had to throw the installation manual out the window. Its really does not match up with anything the FJ40 has. Its finally in so thats a good thing. I just hope it works once I wire it up!

its been a lost summer when it comes to the build. I did get one tag this yr but my son got 3 so for those of you who hunt know this takes a ton of time. Daughter went away to school and other life stuff has slowed things down but im getting back into it now. fuel filter has been placed and all the fuel lines installed. the brakes were not fun. if you are not a brake guy then there is a learning curve. wildwood sent me parts that are metric, standard and pipe thread and when you do not have instructions then you have a mess. I finally talked to someone who knew what was what and hooked me up but i wasted 2 months and many hrs on a simple project. now I know why people spend big bucks for someone else to build a rig for them!!!

Better to do as much as you can. I didn’t know anything when I started the restomod of my 1969 pig. When I converted to disc brakes on all four corners my mechanic friend showed me how to do the first corner and then said I should do the other three. He then added that since brakes are pretty important he would check my work. When I put in new shocks he said that I should be able to figure it out myself and if I couldn’t then I probably shouldn’t own a classic 4x4. LOL

new seat bracket for the bucket seats was horrible. its supposed to be a universal bracket made for the FJ55 but it was not close. Corbeau was great though and I reached out to them and they replaced it with a custom bracket. Besides the waste of time they were great to work with

Great build!

Pondering what to do with this area. Considering some gauges (voltmeter) and charging port for phones or whatever.

Any plans on what your going put in there other than the Missiles to guns switch!

Saw how your vintage air fit which is reassuring.

I cut off the bottom section which held the vacuum transfer case knobs/pulls so that I could tuck the Vintage Air unit up tight. That caused a problem with the original glove box door which I replaced with an aluminum cover and piano hinge. The upper area I used with a matching aluminum plate for original wiper switch, a vintage BMW hazard switch, a concrete style plug, and a two USB outlet. I have since replaced the cigarette style outlet with a Bluetooth “200w” amp and music labeled knob available here on MUD somewhere. Even with the loud 2F I now have music and podcasts that I can hear above the roar of the engine. Love it.

Nice I like what you did. I honestly did not even think about the glove box opening when I did the vintage air. I guess I got lucky. Of course I have not started it up yet either. Its a major pain to hook up but at least im at that point so thats a good thing. Since i have the lower section still I was going to put the vintage air knobs there with a similar aluminum plate or plastic plate? Have not figured that out yet. I also am not going to keep the raido as the engine code display will fit in there nicely. I will cover up the other side where the old air controls were with another plate and keep as many original knobs as possible, wipers, lights, hazard, fresh air vent and I also have a cruise control im putting in that will go there. Im putting the radio in the tuffy consule so save some room there. I would like some usb ports somewhere.

How did you make your cover plates?

A specialty hardware store by me sells different size and thickness aluminum plate stock. Aluminum is easy to cut and shape.

OK thats good to know. It looks like you just bolted into the dash?
Yep…crude but that was how the Land Cruiser logo plate was attached at the top of the center dash so I thought o would keep it consistent. At least that is how my 1969 was done.
