What a shame

That is a lot of work. I can respect the work, but, as a purist, it is not what I consider a restoration.

Is that a standard body work process to spread filler-type material over everything and then sand it smooth before painting? Not for hole filling like bondo, but to make the “body straight” as specified?

It is more common with a pretty high show car paint job but I don’t see the need for this on here.

That kind of hurt my feelings. They did nice Body and metal work. I don’t think vintage 4x4 benefit from in any way by making them that slick, some like it though. I Was actually starting to think that they might be able to salvage it when they painted it and it would look cool. But then it turned into some kind of flat/satin black douche truck. I figured at that point it was getting some black rockstars too.

Someone really wanted it and had a dream. It’s cool they were able to find someone that could make it happen for them. I am going to guess the guys in the shop doing the work didn’t even think that it was cool. I could be wrong. Most good paint and body guys I have have known an eye for detail but not the eye for Aesthetic flow for a major body section/shorten.
They spent 60-100k. Maybe more. It happens all the time. Not often it is a fj45lv. Coke and working girls, in ground swimming pools, kids college, simple Divorce, or any type of bad investment has that much money spent on it.
