Greetings,
Earlier this week, I randomly purchased a 64...so the owner says. I'm not at all familiar with the early ones, so will have many questions as I move through this. I'm going to pick it up on Friday. Not much of a back story, other than the current owner has had it in his barn about 8 years. He purchased it off his buddy that had it in his barn for about 20 years. Both had intentions of restoring it, but neither did anything.

The engine is said to be seized, and is completely dismantled in the back of the truck (where it's been for at least 28 years). There is no drive train currently installed. There are tubs of parts lying in the truck. I have no idea how much is original, and how much is not. When I went to look, it shows the original seats in coral (front seems to be pretty torn up), though I could not see much due to the entire truck being full of random parts. Also, I have no idea how complete everything is until I get it home next weekend.

Owner said he does have the original wheels somewhere. Once I get it home, I'll be excited to sift through the stuff inside and see what all is there. Here are a few pictures that I have.

Thoughts/comments welcomed. I have been reading through some of the early threads, but I will have a billion questions, no doubt.

Thinking production date is last half of 1965. Windshield frame and hard top didn't start until mid 1965. Have you dated the VIN?

No, I haven't even looked at the VIN yet. For some reason, I thought the corrugated hard top was an option. Are you saying all hard tops are corrugated until mid 65? I have so much to learn...

The large side window and corner windows replaced the corrugated top. Was never a option to have one or the other. In 64 there was a vent in the bottom of the windshield frame. SOR has a chart to date the frame on the FJ40 from 64 and later.

Looks to be a 66/67 to me.

I am curious of the date. The forty five degree angle of the blower outside air intake on the right side of the cowl is what makes me think last half of 65.
Late 65 titled as a 66! The heater vent was a 65 production, but no windshield vent and 3 screw windshield hold downs says 66!
I’d say 66 as well.

You guys are impressive. It is indeed a 66. Owner has quite a bit of paperwork that he forgot he had. I’m excited to go through it on Friday when it arrives.

Just source an entire 2F drivetrain. Problem solved.

Nice score @Ocho77. Looks great! You gonna keep it Patina?

He sent me a bunch of pictures of paperwork from 10/66. One had, what I believe to be, the frame number on it. According to SOR site, puts it at a October 1965 build. Again, your knowledge is quite impressive.
