Hello All,
I am trying to get a truck going for a freind, so forgive me if I lack some information. The truck is a 66' FJ-40 with 1F engine, stock. It looks like someone has monky'd with the carb set up at some point and I am not sure whether the carb is even correct. The aisan currently mounted looks like a much later 2F carb, which apparently he had rebuild years ago and has not run sense that time. What carb should the truck have and where might I find one. If I am going to rebuild a carb, I might as well try and find the correct one. Thanks in advance for any information.

My 66 came with a big window 1-barrel Aisin. By "big window" I mean the float bowl has a large glass window in the side. It is about 1.25 inches x 1 inch, IIRC.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I think any 2-barrel carburetor on the F135 will be non-original.

There is no 1F engine but there were three different F engines used in the FJ40 in this country. THe first a F135 which your 66 should. Plus the F145 and F155. The F155 had two versions. The later has a improved oiling system that continued with the next generation 2F. The correct carburator for a 66 has a round site glass not the bigger square one. In 68 the round site glass got smaller. A tow barrel version bas made with a large site glass but it is unclear if it was ever used in the US market or just imported my someone later.

All that said a picture of your engine and carburator would help clear up what you have and what is correct.

My 66' built has a two barrel. Although I am now running one from a 71 model, it did come stock with a 2 barrel. PO changed to a Rochester and I have since changed it back.

Would be curious to see your 2 barrel carburator. Plus the air cleaner. Every air cleaner I've seen imported to the US before the 68 model was a oil bath not paper element. Would like to see what your has.

only a single barrel, but my '59 came in through Long Beach before it made it's initial home in Hawaii and it's a paper without the air vent:meh:

Aisan SD40, in fact I believe mine is a '66 date code but it's been a while since I checked since it's my paper weight.

Thanks to all that responded. Sorry for such a late response from my end. It looks like a the truck had a 155F installed at some point, a 72' according to engine numbers. The kit has been ordered and the carb is disassemble and cleaned. Two problems that I noticed, one the idle mixture screw is a bit damaged (where can I find one of those?), and the main venturies are identical. Aren't these carbs supposed to have a larger and small venturies? Jets are correct so I plan to reassemble it for now so that the truck is at least running. Thanks again for all of your help.

Just finished rebuilding a 1/72 for a neighbors pig. I received a new mixture screw in the rebuild kit and found the venturies to appear to identical as well, if I remember the jets they were 140 primary and 180 secondary. Search "charity carb rebuild" for a thread I started for that little project, good luck.
