Offroad - unlikely for the SwampGX (the white one...).

And as for the DesertGX, there are 4 modded vehicles in the AZ contingent of the fleet that really are more trail-capable than a stock GX. The GX is for driving something that doesn't have mud tires.

The DesertGX has seen a dirt road in its tenure with us; what followed was quite interesting:

So we run 4 Peaks Road, north of Phoenix, followed by the Apache Trail; a nice, but long & dusty day. Next day: car wash, just to get the dust off. 2 days later: battery dead as a doornail, 5V, didn't like the idea of charging that one. I have a pretty-much-dead (10.7V) Yellow Optima 27F left over, bolt that in, and jump the truck from a leftover Optima Yellow 34/78 (from the Blazer). Drive to Lexus in Scottsdale, warranty on the battery; they say the truck is fine. New battery from Lexus. That battery was dead as a doornail in another 3 days, 2.7V. Claudia, with help from @richardlillard1, finagles the truck back to Lexus. It takes them a bit, but they found a pin had corroded off the ECU - due to water ingress from what is apparently an aftermarket windshield, and presumably, a short at that ECU connector drained the battery each time. Now that truck has a new battery, and a new ECU. And a newly sealed windshield...
Holy Fu drama.
That sux!!
Yeah, if more capable trail rigs are @ hand then absolutely keep the GX as it's comfy ride promotes for pavement and long hauls!!

For 'wheeling, there's a '72 FJ40, '93 '80, '97 LX, and '85 K5; all locked f/r (who besides 80-owners cares about the 3x-locked thing anyways??), K5 on 37s, all others on 315s. FJ40 & K5 was the equipment for 2 Moab trips/year from 2006 to 2012; then vehicle numbers increased while life got in the way of weeklong Utah wheeling trips... I'm thinking the GX(s) will be good for Yellowstone or AZ/CO/UT skiing trips.

On the more mundane side of all things GX, the new Denso oxygen sensor in the white GX seems to have fixed the CEL; readiness monitors are reset, no codes so far.

Baby HAM setup for the GX came in today:

China-made Talkcoop KT-8900, 25W VHF, 20W UHF. ~$70 from Amazon, + Nagoya UT-72 magmount ($28). The "English" in the manual is a hoot...
There's a USB programming cable included, and supposedly this works with CHIRP. Interwebs say it only draws 5A on transmit at max power, so power from the cig lighter ought to be fine... we'll see what the noise is, and then I'll consider stringing cable from the battery.

And there's a PL259 to SMA pigtail, so I can run my Baofeng handheld with the magmount antenna.

The antenna is 1/4 wave on 2m, so middle of the roof on the GX ought to be fine re ground plane (similar setup in my '80 worked well). It's 5/8 wave on 70cm, we'll see how that goes. The repeaters here that I'm familiar with are in the 2m band; some of the emergency comm channels use 70cm, so I'm curious how this setup will do on 70cm.

Radio manual states that you ought to cut power to the unit if smoke comes out (seriously?? why not let it burn?)... we'll see. Last time I chanced one of those ChiComm Radios from Amazon, someone had already let the smoke out before it got to me - both fuses in the harness were blown :)

Whoa, hell yeah, no reason to LT the GX with that stable!! nice.
Do you still make it up here to Moab regularly?
life got in the way of longer trips AND more vehicles joined the fleet? NEAT!! ;)

unfortunately, we haven't made it to Moab in too many years now :crybaby:

yeah, funny how that happens

promptly, a week after the 40 went into the shop (story here: the DSRTRDR is getting some TLC . . . - warning: long), I bought the LX (while Michael was in Germany) :D

and after the LX blew the motor last Christmas (story here: '93 80 vs. '97 LX), we got the first GX (I had mentioned for a number of years how I could see one of those in my future) - liked it so much, the second followed less than a year later

as far as vehicles go, we hardly ever sell anything

This^^
yes! :)

I may have gotten the last set that was on eBay for a reasonable price...

did I mention the license plate for the white GX finally came in: SWAMPGX :D

also, SWAMPGX now has a new dash :bounce: - installed on the dealer's dime - shoutout to Price LeBlanc Lexus of Baton Rouge

in return, I had them do a few other interior doodads and now the passenger side front door lock actuator doesn't work anymore . . .

I suspect an electrical connector was forgotten, but they can figure that out next week
