Looking to do new springs on my 55. Seems everyone does only a 2.5" spring lift on a 55. Rough Country has a 4" springs for sale.

Does the extra height of the 4" make the truck too unstable? They haven't sold the 4" springs to anyone in a while so I'm wondering if I should or I shouldn't buy them. Is there a problem with this method?

Should I buy the 2.5" springs with larger shackles or the 4" springs outright?

The 2.5" springs with the extended shackles will give you a better ride.

Longer shackles on the front with fawk up your caster.

If you wanted to go 4" you might want to think about calling Alcan Springs. I think they are normally around $200 a spring. Don't forget you will probably need to get bushings, shocks, spring pins, extended brake lines and other stuff.

Edit: DO NOT GO ALCAN. They made my rear springs too short and they didn't bolt up. They said they would fix them by making a new main leaf and military wrap leaf. After I paid the $75 to ship back to them, I received them back all they had done was flatten the spring so I could bolt them up which seriously reduced the amount of lift I requested.

Alcan. Make them 1~1.5" longer on the shackle end. That will help with the shackle angle and make it ride better. I had 4" Alcans on my 55, and for awhile had another 55 with the MAF safari kit.

The alcan rode much nicer IMO and flexxed very well. You can custom suit them to whatever weight over stock you'll be carrying...ie winch, bumpers etc...be DO NOT overestimate this number. It's designed to have a 4" lift WITH the extra weight you specify...so empty it will ride rougher and sit higher.

Depending on the wheeling or whatever tire size you are looking for...I'd do this.

Go 3.5" Alcan springs 1" longer on the shackle side
Bilstein 5100 shocks
greaseable shackles/pins
new u-bolts
extended brakelines

front 55 is 4" alcan and 35's, rear is Safari 4" spings and 33's

alcans usually come with bushings, so if you go that way, don't order until you know you need them. they may not be correct however. they didn't have a bushing to fit the raffle vehicle so we ended up having to order bushings anyways.

this forum is great.

"I would like to see a super rare vehicle, modified with 33's or 35's, pictures, please"

"Oh, I happen to have a pair of those, nearly identical, with those combos. Let me get a pic."

John,
I think Kina may have a used set

Used is good. Especially for my garage rated 55!

it is kinda funny, but beings as there is only like 3 lift springs available, owning two for awhile put me at near expert level.;p
