I have the 3 speed ball in there which is longer already
In this instance, it is necessary to remove the tall pivot ball from the 3 speed belhousing and bolt it into the 4spd BH.
OP says he's already got the 3-speed ball in the BH...

Ok so I read through this and am still unsure what I should do...I have a 3 speed 1968 transmisson & a '75 2F that I picked up. I have no idea if the 2F had a 4 speed or 3 speed (if that even matters) I used my old finger style setup & it slipped even though the disc was in good shape. My guess is because the flywheel is made for the diaphram style. So now I ordered the diaphram style clutch kit (PP, disc, to bearing, pilot bearing) So the way I see it I still need the different fork & TO bearing hub to make it all work. Does that seem right?

IIRC the only common part to the two systems may be the clutch disc itself, but I may be wrong. The clutch disc part number changed in 4/73 and again in 10/76, but the 3-speed transmission to 4-speed transmission change was in 1/75, and the clutch pressure plate changed from the 3-finger clutch in 8/74. So the clutch disc part number stayed the same over the pressure plate transition.Bumping this….
Can I use a 3 speed flywheel and pressure plate with a 4 speed clutch kit and 4 speed? I’m swapping engine and transmission on my ‘73 and have the engine, bellhousing, and 4 speed but don’t have the 4 speed flywheel/PP
Cheers
I ran into a similar problem with a confused customer working through an even more confused mechanic earlier this year.Ok, so if clutch disc and flywheel are the same thing, sorry for my lack of knowledge here, then I should be good to do that. I bought a 3 speed clutch kit from Cool Cruisers only to find that I am now going the 4 speed route. I will be returning the 3 speed clutch in favor of the 4 speed kit. There is a local clutch shop that can resurface/clean up the flywheel...
thanks, @4Cruisers
Thanks for the advice! I’ll keep the thread posted once I get parts rolling inI ran into a similar problem with a confused customer working through an even more confused mechanic earlier this year.
The best advice I can give you is to NOT RETURN ANYTHING until you have everything in front of you that you think you need to do the job, THEN POST PICS to get advice from the collective.
Odds are you will end up buying a newer flywheel. Better long term prospects.
