Alright, I know there are some 80 guys roaming around here that know the in's & out's of the 3FE better than anyone (certainly than myself) and the many small changes that took place from the FJ62 to the end of the FJ80 when it came to things like accessories, etc. So let's talk water pumps.

We've sold an AISIN aftermarket 3FE water pump for quite some time that covers the entire range of US spec 3FE's. AISIN's application covers the entire 88-92 range, nothing shocking there.

Well last week I had a customer inquire about an OEM Toyota water pump for his big FJ80 overhaul. Now let's be clear the AISIN is the OEM for Toyota, same damn pump but I certainly can't fault someone for making a personal choice to go OEM Toyota in a Toyota box. We offer both, no dramas there. Well I check stock and we have the 16110-61180 (FJ62's 3FE) but I've never stocked the 16100-69255 (FJ80's 3FE). OK, curiosity piqued, what's different? So we order his in and I have them out tonight tinkering in the shop and they are 100% the same as best I can tell... the only difference I can find is the gasket. The 61180 doesn't include one. The FJ62 specs the 16271-61010 which supercedes to the 16271-61020... the same gasket included with the 16100-69255. I've seen many oddities in the Cruiser parts, I suppose this is just another one of them.

The pricing is head scratcher too. Retail on the 61180 is $213.91, figure $219.93 with an OE gasket. Retail on the 69255 is $184.73. Should we keep this a secret from the FJ62 owners lol :D

I'll be your test mule if you want to see if the 80 one fits the 62. I won't even charge you!:D

How about I include a free gasket with the 62 pump purchase :D

Yah, pricing is strange. With Lexus on the box it should clearly cost more. But I don't imagine those are popular at the Lexus parts counter.

You know what... That box felt quieter, smoother, more refined.

Doesn't the box have both Lexus AND Toyota markings? I've noticed this for a lot of stuff recently. It allows for common packaging for service parts and probably saves a ton of money in printing costs to use black instead of red ink

I don’t remember Lexus EVER coming out with a 3fe in ANY model they sold?

"Co-branding". Introduced worldwide a few years ago.

Well at least Kurt recognized my sarcasm.

It’s the pink panties they stuff in the box...

I knew there were a lot of them, but now they are using them for packing material?

The water pump had a specially made pair of pink panties for the water pump, made to prevent shipping damage

We just went through putting a FJ62 3fe in my 80. The water pumps for sure appear identical. There are differences in the engines but that didnt seem to be one.

So this pic looks exactly like the Aisin pump. two scenarios are possible: 1) Aisin makes pumps and sells them in the gray market or 2) some Aisin pumps in the market are fake.

I'm just confused why Aisin would grind of the Aisin "stamp" to only put on the Aisin sticker. @cruiseroutfit, any clues on this?

Yah, I ordered mine and I guess it's common practice to grind off the toyota stamp they have there so they can sell it as Aisin.
If you look up reviews on amazon for aisin pumps even for different vehicles, you'll find that this practice is fairly common.
