OK, just confirmed the practice after watching this Aisin official video showing one of their water pumps with some grinds and a sticker... you have to pause it at the right time to see the sticker.

Just to close this thread. I also heard back directly from Aisin.

Q: Is it normal for an Aisin water pump to have an Aisin sticker on the pump after the original marking has been ground down?

A:

The answer is yes on some Aisin water pumps.

Thank you,

Alright, I know there are some 80 guys roaming around here that know the in's & out's of the 3FE better than anyone (certainly than myself) and the many small changes that took place from the FJ62 to the end of the FJ80 when it came to things like accessories, etc. So let's talk water pumps.

We've sold an AISIN aftermarket 3FE water pump for quite some time that covers the entire range of US spec 3FE's. AISIN's application covers the entire 88-92 range, nothing shocking there.

Well last week I had a customer inquire about an OEM Toyota water pump for his big FJ80 overhaul. Now let's be clear the AISIN is the OEM for Toyota, same damn pump but I certainly can't fault someone for making a personal choice to go OEM Toyota in a Toyota box. We offer both, no dramas there. Well I check stock and we have the 16110-61180 (FJ62's 3FE) but I've never stocked the 16100-69255 (FJ80's 3FE). OK, curiosity piqued, what's different? So we order his in and I have them out tonight tinkering in the shop and they are 100% the same as best I can tell... the only difference I can find is the gasket. The 61180 doesn't include one. The FJ62 specs the 16271-61010 which supercedes to the 16271-61020... the same gasket included with the 16100-69255. I've seen many oddities in the Cruiser parts, I suppose this is just another one of them.

The pricing is head scratcher too. Retail on the 61180 is $213.91, figure $219.93 with an OE gasket. Retail on the 69255 is $184.73. Should we keep this a secret from the FJ62 owners lol :D

hello Kurt , :)

i was curious if you still have these 2 same OEM toyota & the 1 OEM AISIN
3F-E part # water pumps on-hand and in-stock , to perform a simple Laboratory-Setting condition study to record the weight of each 16100- sub. assy. down to the lowest possible .0 grams level that one of your in-house postage scales is capable of measuring under its Max. weight limit range as well .....

- studs installed of course or all removed might actually be better here in-fact ...

- i have done just this on a few much lighter in weight and size for that matter , TOYOTA part #'s that are exact same parts produced by the exact same OEM parts maker in JAPAN ....

- i never gave it much thought till now that for no reasons really , all part #'s were made in japan ...

- im sure this same exact
TOYOTA Part , in different Part #'s TOYOTA Parts boxes phenomenon thingy exists here in the North America market region , but i can't think of 2 different Part #'s Made in the USA on the TOYOTA parts Label's to say Yea here on also ?

- i played with hose clamps of all kinds , Bolts and other various hardware in the MED to Large size spec. , .....i did in fact find i guess you would call it some , but also notable differences ....

- OEM Oil Filters were a topic i did have a wide range assortment of and differed the most , the 41010 and this confirmed and verified OEM Substitution " Rascal " below. i actually do have the same exact 2 parts i tinkered

around with over a decade ago ...:  ....

- this was at least 10 + years ago and i have not thought twice about it till this thread somehow just found me in @woody 's nifty below feature in the BAR below called " Similar threads " , i do recall when i first noticed it after assuming a late night owel system update occurred ?

it quickly became and still is new kooler than kool app-type thingy that is now part of my instinct-DNA to graze over at each next page here on MUD .....:D

- note : these photos or it does not exist pics , i shot just now real time live @6:

It's something I can look at doing when I'm back in the shop with some time available.
