Anyone know where to source the accelerator cable and kickdown cable for a 1991 fj80 3FE ??? Have a ciggie shoved in it currently to compensate for slack. Will shift hard as hell otherwise. Need the part asap so I can drive her!!!!

It looks like you still have a fair amount of adjustment in the cable to take some of that slack out, I would start there. On page AT-13 & AT-26 in the FSM there is good info on how/where it should be adjusted

I bought my 91 with a half assed egr delete done to it. (Pump removed, egr vacuum looped instead of removed and capped) my question is, on the vsv valve going to the throttle body, can I just cap that hard line going to the air injectors? I've seen videos of kits with 4 brass caps on the air injectors, definitely a cleaner look and I'll buy eventually, but for now I'd like to just get the full delete finished.
Yes you can just cap the hand lines and leave the rest intact. The cap screws to remove the hard lines is a great touch, but not necessary,

Hi! 👋🏼

(Apologies if this is not the right place for this!)

I finally pulled the trigger on a 1992 with 280k miles on it! I have wanted an 80 series for a loooooooooong time (when I was in HS in 2000 I travelled abroad and got to ride around in the jungle in one of these during a monsoon. We drove around to all the rural schools to make sure everyone was okay.

I am in the metro detroit area and curious if anyone has seen this one before and if there is a history I can use to jump start my findings, otherwise I am going to start with whatever maintenance and rebuilding I can do to get this thing ship shape before I start looking to modify it any way.

The brakes are in rough shape so I am starting with replacing pads and rotors, and going to rebuild the knuckles along the way.

Hi! This is my first post on here and am not sure if this is the correct place to post but I am having some issues. (1992 FJ80 3-FE) My thermometer went out the other day and I attempted to fix it myself..... should be easy. I was prepared after reading other posts here that I should expect breaking a bolt or two, what happened next i did not expect.

If you are able to see, I did break a bolt, but also, a part of the lower housing completely broke off. I have now learned this is either called the lower housing or the water outlet. Alas I must replace this part. I am having a huge issue finding the part though. I already found out that I ordered the wrong thermostat, so I am being very careful with what I order.

Many diagrams show this is part number 16333, and it is mine since it has the double pipe coming off of it. This one on eBay is a similar part but it only has one pipe! Another listing shows this may infact actually be part 16304? Is the pipe coming off something that is interchangeable? Or does someone have a link/place where I can get a secondhand one?! Thanks guys

Absolutely love it! When we got ours this last year, the new to us Cruiser did fluids, tune up. Then started cleaning wiring!

Had the top end of my 1991 3FE rebuilt like 6 months ago, Now, looking at getting the lower half rebuilt, as it will be at the machine shop and ideas on how to get a little more power out of the block?

you can pickup a bit of power by eliminating the clutch fan and go with elec. fan , desmog and advanced timing. Also gearing and my HD Nomad VB made a huge diff. on the A440F. It wont be anything crazy like boost, but it will be on par with a stock 4.5L

I wish I had a stock 4.5, this 3FE is only a 4.0, what is a Nomad VB?

Thanks

4.5L has its own hose of issues and TBO dealing with HG issues or PPH (just search MUD) and you will see changing HGs isn't what i would call a preventive maintenance on these rigs. a Nomad Valve Body optimized shift points, added a 3rd gear lockup and greatly reduce heat generated from the 440F. just my .02

Well just picked up my FJ80 today. New gears, bearings, knuckle rebuild, arb locker actuators, TC rebuild. And new 35” BFG AT tires the week prior. It’s super smooth. Feels great, but what’s left of my wallet really hurts.

Do you guys know know where I can sell my fluids for extra $?

congrats. what suspension upgrade did you go with? I have gone thru my excel worksheet on everything i have spent on my 91 and i am around 20-25k mark not including the vehicle itself i brought 10 yrs ago....i still wouldnt trade it for anything else in today's market. enjoy! I have done 90% of the stuff myself and just imagine paying a shop to do all the work would be 2x as much....If you want to do it right, do it yourself. the 80s is just about as easy of a platform to learn these rigs as they come from factory.

Hey man,

I have the OME 3” heavy I put on when I got it. I’m right around 27k -29k right now. I did a lot of the work myself, minus the differentials, and some of the motor work. I’m running out of stuff to replace 🤣. Although, I still have a bunch to do in reality.

It was my cousins rig he willed to me when he passed away, his name was Clinton.

We have lovingly nicknamed the LC “Clinton’s Last Laugh.” Due to the amount of money I have sunk in to get his ride back to its glory.
