Dealer source: Toyota killing Land Cruiser in US after 2021
After almost 70 years, it appears Toyota Land Cruiser will exit the U.S. after the 2021 model year.www.motorauthority.com
Curious as to where the post was when it was deleted. Really sucks if its true.
This looks like some wikipedia chit.![]()

Land Cruiser is here to stay in the USA in some form or fashion... I would venture to bet it either gets shrunk (and ToMoCo lets the Sequioa become the full size BOF SUV in the lineup) or it gets its natural born little brother available in the rest of the world (the Prado) in the lineup to compete with the 45-55K 4 door Wranglers, and New Broncos in the midsize BOF segment... I don't see Toyota letting FIAT and FORD have all the fun after exiting the off-road orientated segment with the discontinuance of the FJ Cruiser as few years ago. The 4Runner is a midsize SUV but it's designed more for the street, even the off-road models and TRP models... I see them either downsizing the LandCrusier to make a true off-roader or bringing the Prado as a true off-roader to compete in the segment. The 4Runner has name recognition, but not that of a Land Cruiser.
Land Cruiser in North America died at the end of 1997 but the infection that precipitated the prolonged death began in 1988.
They traded the clutch pedal for power windows.I get 1997...but was the 3fe (a guess at your thinking) really that bad compared to the 2f?

....that and the front end looks like the Family Truckster![]()

Also, do you know if this and the GXOR are Lexus US marketing projects only or are they higher up?
RXOR? yikes. nevermind.Lexus of course wanted to maintain the trademark spindle look. CBI, Clay and myself met and discussed how high it needed to be to retain that look and CBI ran with the ball designing it with some check-off from our friends at Lexus.
I suspect we'll see more offerings on that front across the board.
