Got about an hour in today on chia. It rained so I didn't spray any more metal. I was able to get the wire-harness and the pedal assembly out and test fit the 97 FZJ80 Master/booster.

That booster is huge in comparison. You can see it covers up the clutch master hole. Its cool that it fits in the same holes... 25 years apart. Have any of you put one of these in?

I'm thinking the body is clean enough and that a good sanding will do the trick. I was originally thinking of sandblasting it. Took some pictures.

Question on the rear sill. I think its ok enough to drill out, bend back into shape and tack back on. Looking for thoughts on this.

WOW

Does your pop up vent in the cowl still work?

Yea it did. Pretty rad. I think it looks pretty good under the dash.

Picked up the frame this mornin at 7am. Weather was iffy so I was pushing my luck with possible rain.

Got it home and started to take apart the rest of the frame perch's... then realized that it was going to be nearly impossible without my plasma. The tip and electrode wore out.

Took 2 hours to get new tips, burned the rivits out and took off the PS Scab.

There was still a ton of grinding to do. Ground all welds flush, prepped with some dx80 and sprayed primer on the beast. 3 coats. Pulled out some broken bolts while I was letting the layers dry.

I'm learning alot in this build. Next time, I'll do all the mocking up before blasting... so I'd do the 4 link, then blast. I think it will be nice working on clean junk though. Also thinking that I should have outboarded the springs and sprung it over in the front before tearing down the truck. I think I'll put everything back together once I figure out what tranny / transfer to run... then spring it over for the right angle.

Before that I want to get to the body and get that suitable for primer and possibly roll the Rust-Oleum on it before it gets to cool. Engine stuff can be done in the winter... Paint wont dry right with our winters in Seattle.

If you did that to your Plasma tip and nozzle with no more than you have done, you have something wrong. I'm not trying ti incinuate you ahve not done a lot but I think you need to get a better ground on the mtal your cutting on and install a water trap on the backside of your Plasma.

Great Progress!

I've cut up a Frame, blasted out 30 rivits, and cut a 40 body in half.

Thats what I've done.

I've grounded, at times it goes for 5 seconds and dies. I think that was because the ground wasn't good.

Do you still think that isn't enough use?

Not at all.

I have cut up two FJ 60 frames and one FJ 60. I've also used the heck out of mine rebuilding the bed on my FJ40.5 as well as fabricated a bunch of stuff.

I'm on my second tip since last Oct and I have a smaller Plasma than you do. The nut on my ground clamp comes loose and I have to tighten it quit a bit.

I needed more room so I move about 30 crates to the barn. That thing is chock full o cruiser.

Pulled the engine and started cleaning up the frame. The tranny/transfercase support had 1 bolt in in... no nut... just gravity holding it there.

I shake my head at the PO.

Now I'll have to take the front and rear frame bumper supports out... they are both trash. Also think the PS is a Scout box bummer there. I need to think of what to do for PS now. Use the existing (re-weld) or go a different route. check out the welds the PO popped in...:eek::eek::doh: It all needs to be ground out.

I'm almost in new territory... putting something together. After I get the front end unbolted and the bumper supports pulled I'll grind all the hack welds down and send the frame to the sandblaster so I have something clean to work with.

some pictures

Wow, I've never seen anything like those welds in my life, good god!!!! You've found yourself a real Gem!!

Nothing done on chia today... but My wife helped me trim the trees from last winters snow destruction.

This is one of the tools I'm helping a recent widow sell.

Wife was at the controls, I was in the bucket.

Funny because as soon as she put that helmet on, a tree hit her in the head... We had a great laugh... haven't laughed so hard together in a while.

Reposting this.

Got the rear sill tore out, some rust... did this a couple days ago, today I wire wheeled, hammered lightly (to get rust chunks loose) and then ran it over with 50 grit on the grinder. Then wire wheeled again.

Finally hit it with some rust for must (phosperic acid).

Oh yeah, by the way Mike, phosphoric acid etches concrete so don't let it drip on the garage floor. :D

No worries man. I'll see you in about a month? This weekend I'm booked... I know your out for a few weeks... have fun man.

Ordered the junk that will help me hook up the front springs from Ruffstuff.com. 1 7" spring perch which I'll cut in half and use on each side and some outboarding perches.

Haven't gotten much done on the 40 lately... but that will be next as well as the 4 link.

I'm going to flip the springs moving the axle forward 1 1/2 inches, but will not do the shackle reversal. Then I want to mock the engine back in and figure out the FJ60 Steering box location.

Learning as I go. I've updated the build spending.
