When you put a patch in, do you back it w/ brass to keep it from burning through?
IIRC, you are using a Hobart 135 (or equivalent) to weld - what size wire are you running?
What wire speed
What heat level?
Thanks, great work and really glad that you found a LPB.

Shear doesn't work that well on curves and in several areas I have to cut through the first layer of 18 ga. metal and not cut through the piece underneath, so a shear wouldn't work for that.
No brass or anything on the backside.....I cut my panels very, very close to exact and fit them in pretty tight. And I don't burn though![]()
.028 wire / heat setting A(which is the lowest), and set the wire speed around 25. Burp the wire into the orginal steel at a 45 degree angle and instantly drag it on to the new stuff to tack it together. When I have it tacted where it isn't going to move....I start my welds on the edge of a previous weld. Do about a 1/4" at time, all over the place. Take your time and don't get it to hot.
Hope this helps, Matt
