I bet chuck would do it.....that'd be worth the price of admission
They also do a greased flag pole climb. They set up a Confederate encampment
that is neat. Kids love this the event.
I have this little story from a 7 or 8 year old cousin that I preserved as a wall hanging
in the hallway. He's a senior in high school now.
Autumn Memories
Some of my favorite memories are at the Pumpkin Town Festival every year.
No matter what, I always leave smiling. It takes place every autumn in the
mountains of Pickens County. I arrive at my cousin's house with many other friends and
family members. We then get on a flatbed truck filled with hay and go on a hayride!
We waive at people as we pass them until we arrive at the festival.
The grounds are covered with colorful booths and souvenir shops. I do a colored sand
mixing activity so when I put all the sand in a bottle it looks tie-dyed. I also purchase
many cravings, "okra people" and usually a hiking stick.
I love the sound of the underbrush crunching beneath me. The falling leaves
are as bright as the pumpkins resting so contently on the haystacks. The
discreet trickling of the river is hidden by the sounds of cheerful laughter of everyone.
The lingering scent of pollen disturbs the delicious aroma of sweet funnel cakes and
other mouth watering foods.
Once our private party meets up again, we get back onto the hayride and return
to my cousin's house for refreshments. Some strangers tried to get on the truck
because they though it was a public ride! After watching the football game we sit by
the bonfire and tell ghost stories while roasting gooey marshmallows. Even though
I've been to the festival many times, I remember each and every one of them.
