It's the Pumpkin Festival in Pumpkintown. :grinpimp:
Party at our place. Come early, stay late.
Hayrides to the festival site are anticipated.
I will arrange for parking.
The Man Cave should be receiving guests
by then as well. I've already have the Man Cave
outhouse up and running. :hillbilly:

Bump this too where's pumpkintown.

I bet chuck would do it.....that'd be worth the price of admission:grinpimp:

They also do a greased flag pole climb. They set up a Confederate encampment
that is neat. Kids love this the event.

I have this little story from a 7 or 8 year old cousin that I preserved as a wall hanging
in the hallway. He's a senior in high school now.

Autumn Memories

Some of my favorite memories are at the Pumpkin Town Festival every year.
No matter what, I always leave smiling. It takes place every autumn in the
mountains of Pickens County. I arrive at my cousin's house with many other friends and
family members. We then get on a flatbed truck filled with hay and go on a hayride!
We waive at people as we pass them until we arrive at the festival.
The grounds are covered with colorful booths and souvenir shops. I do a colored sand
mixing activity so when I put all the sand in a bottle it looks tie-dyed. I also purchase
many cravings, "okra people" and usually a hiking stick.
I love the sound of the underbrush crunching beneath me. The falling leaves
are as bright as the pumpkins resting so contently on the haystacks. The
discreet trickling of the river is hidden by the sounds of cheerful laughter of everyone.
The lingering scent of pollen disturbs the delicious aroma of sweet funnel cakes and
other mouth watering foods.
Once our private party meets up again, we get back onto the hayride and return
to my cousin's house for refreshments. Some strangers tried to get on the truck
because they though it was a public ride! After watching the football game we sit by
the bonfire and tell ghost stories while roasting gooey marshmallows. Even though
I've been to the festival many times, I remember each and every one of them.

You guys going to be there after the festival too? I'm working a booth with the Knights of Columbus, but I could come by after...

Hope to make it with my girls!

Northern Pickens county. NW section of S.C.
Just south of Cherokee Foothills Scenic Hwy #11.
Located on Hwy #135 known as Dacusville Hwy.
The festival usually draws about 20K-30K visitors for the day.
Bluegrass picking, food and games like the greased pig contest
for the kids. VERY family oriented event. Art/craft booths etc.
I live about 1 mile up the hill from the site. It's held at the Oolenoy
Community Center.

Thanks for the info and the maps looks like a beatiful area of the state. Just a little too far from Charleston for me this year but maybe next year. The reflections of the festival bring back many happy memories of a Strawberry festival we had in my home town in Tennessee for many years. Will wish you all well on the date. :)

I know my girls would love this- we are going to the shrimp and crab boil the week before- but will try to get to this as well. Thanks for the info.

Festival teaser

The Man Cave is coming along on schedule. I hope to
have it available for the men by the festival time.
This is a side shot after clearing away some jungle. :hillbilly:
It will not be a place recommended for women and children. :hillbilly:
The cabin is over 150 years old. I'll post some pics as the
place takes shape.

Looks awesome, Dave! Never saw the real beauty of that structure through all that foliage. Good Job. Can't wait for July. Hopefully, will make it for the Pumpkinfest too.

Hopefully we can "break in" the Little House when you get here in July!
Maybe a little beta party before the big bash. :hillbilly: Wish they had a emoticon for 'shine.

Dave, it looks great! Can't wait to have a drink of two...

That place needs some rough sawn siding and it would be perfect.

David if you have the need for any old wood for furniture or anything I have a bunch of wood from my grand father. Weathered heart pine from a tabacco barn. When you cut it you can still smell the tabacco.

Thanks for the offer Marshall. I've already purchased the rough cut boards for the siding.
I'm hoping to get the interior pressure washed over the weekend then I can start putting up the
screening on the front porch, redo the windows, install doors, etc and then start installing the siding.
Man, those old 'baccie boards would have been sweet for siding.
I know a guy who makes "antique" furniture for us. He loves old wood. He's made several pieces for our house. You may want to have something made from those boards for sentimental reasons.
Next time you come by I'll show you some of his work. He's really an artist.
Pic is a cabinet he made to fit in a specific space and serve as stand for the TV.
