Cleaned and opened up the front screen porch today.
Also removed the old framing from the "bedroom" someone
had added. Tomorrow we start putting up the siding.
The goal is to have the basic house ready next week.

update

Work continues. Pace is quickening.
Pic is chimney side with siding installed.
Interior with sheet rock nailing boards removed.
Hope to have all the siding done tomorrow
and replace a couple of bad boards in the hardwood floor
and re-floor the front screen porch. Having a few days off
for the 4th has been productive.
Found some neat primitive furniture pieces and a source
for animal skins. Also found a hillbilly felt hat and a coon skin cap
at the Coon Dog Days festival. :hillbilly:

Work continues.
Most of the siding is done. Trim and re-screening porch remain.
Doors have to be hung and windows installed/restored.
I need to make a new hearth for the fireplace.
We hope to start decorating next week. :grinpimp:
Pics are the back side and screen porch.

Kick ass.

Thank you counselor. It was built before the War of Northern Aggression. :hillbilly:
I'm trying to pin down the exact date through oral history. A book of local
history, going back to about 1743, contains a house similar to this place,
although it is NOT this cabin, which has the date 1820. Hell, that place
looked OLD in the pic. Same chimney, same rooflines w/ porches
and stacked stone foundation piers. Shoot the people in the pic look OLD. ;)
If ya ever have bidness hereabouts stop in for a cold jar of squeezins
and some tobacco.
The second pic is a similar cabin. I assume this
pic is from before say 1865.

I love this sort of history.

The cabin is looking great!

I used to hunt a piece of property. I had a tower stand up against an old cabin that looked very similar to yours. I was told the cabin was for 'sharecroppers' - read slaves. I'll have to go back and look at it some day.

Looking good David. As a municipal govt. representative I need to know your going about this in the right way though, I'm gonna need to see a copy of your building permit. :flipoff2:

As a consultant I must state that my client is in full compliance with County regulations. My client's actions fall under "renovation of an existing structure" which according to County code 87.675 Section A.09 my client does not require a permit for his area and in addition his improvements do not entail any electrical or plumbing. :flipoff2::flipoff2:

Doors and windows installed. Man, there isn't a right angle in the whole cabin.
Lots of cutting, fitting, planing etc. to make the doors work. Glad there is
only 3 doors.
Now at least the critters don't have free rein to enter as they please. I've been
expecting to have an encounter with a bear/deer/coyote/bobcat when
I go into the cabin each day. Thankfully that hasn't happened. Just a
kingsnake and a big rat. :hillbilly:
Pressure washing the inside is next up.
