Here's yer permit...right here
Next thing yer goin' tell me is I can't have no outhouse.![]()
Actually if you were here you couldnt have an outhouse. Building and inspections would probably be out there regularly too, good thin you live in Pickens Co.

There is a thing called "grandfathered". As a pre-existing structure...I can assure
you it pre-dates MOST regulations...the attempt to force it's removal would be
ex post facto legislation enforcement. Ain't gonna happen. They'd have to condemn
the structure and no legitimate gov't purpose would warrant that action.
LOL...I'd make me some atty fees as a result of such Gestapo tactics.
So, if I lived there (and I'm glad I don't) and IF I had me an outhouse and IF it pre=existed
before regs...I bet I COULD keep it.
Ain't America great!![]()
That is all well and true David but you are overlooking the great regulatory clause which allows us to get rid of your outhouse and make you bring everything up to code. That being that the value of your renovations is greater than 50% of the value of the structure being renovated. I dont know what Pickens has but most city/county govt's have a clause like that in there and I know we do here in Isle of Wight County, VA (your answer Andy). It wasn't to long ago maybe 6 months that there was a big news story about a guy not being allowed to put his outhouse back that had been there for like 60yrs and was grandfathered in and some church built him an addition that was just a bathroom. Can't remember if that was in SC or not though. Also we could always just claim health, safety, and well being of the public when we told you no outhouse because they are neither healthy nor that safe.
It seems to me that whether you can keep the outhouse and whether you can use the outhouse are two separate issues.
Hey Juice, maybe David will set us have a drink at the cabin on Wed. night before we leave for Tellico! I'll bring the scotch.
