After the best intentions of converting the 2F in my 60 into a 2FE, I have given up. Not because I didn't have the skills, or support from the great people on this forum, but I simply haven't had time. My 60 full of parts has been sitting in the backyard now for about 2 years and I don't see me getting to it anytime soon to do a project like this.

Having said that I don't want to see all the parts I have squirrelled away go to waste. I had an 88 62 series I bought as a donor truck and pulled everything off of it to do a conversion like this. I even went so far as to buy all the required gaskets to put it back together! I pulled the fuel tank off because it had the high pressure pump and the straps to mount it. All the parts are in good shape and came off with very little effort so nothing had to be persuaded with a hammer!!

Is anyone interested in taking these off me?

This may be one of those "I pulled the trigger too fast" kind of apologies.... Literally minutes after I posted this, a friend, some of you may know him as RocDoc, offered to help me get this project taken care of because he has some time. We are working out the details and I will keep you posted.

I'm sorry if I got a few of you excited, stay tuned to find out which way we go!!

BTW, I had no idea as to $$$, basically I was open to offers, as I didn't want to see the parts just go to waste.

Thanks for your understanding.

Dean.

Dude if you do end up building it, take very detailed notes and pictures. There are some decent threads out there for building these but nothing super detailed from my searching.

See it through. Once you have it up and running I think you will find the 60 to be a different, and much improved, vehicle. I did a 3FE conversion in one of my 60s years ago and driving it is night and day compared to the carb'd 60. Driving the fuel injected 60 will put a huge smile on your face. And it is a very reliable system. Over the years the only EFI related component that I can recall failing was the EFI relay.

And it is a very reliable system

That's what I'm after. The EFI's not as simple as some-

but the carb makes it look so!

So here is a question since some have done this... will the EFI system solve some of the cold start issues? I know that with my 60 it takes a good minute or two before she wants to start. She pretty much always does but routine is usually; get in turn key to ACC, pump gas three times, turn and let turn over a few times, turn off, pump gas twice, turn and let turn over a few times, turn off, rinse and repeat until she starts to fire. This is usually a three-peat of the rinse section then she will idle real rough for a second and die, next fire she is usually running rough but slowly warms up. Would love to get in, turn her over once or twice and have her start. I know with mine there are other issues that this issue revolves around but would love the EFI portion.....

Two answers:

1. Yes, FI will eliminate cold start issues if you get it all installed right.

2. If you get your carb'd engine properly tuned, you won't have cold start issues.

My cold start routine --
-- pull choke out all the way
-- pump pedal twice
-- crank it up
-- push choke in to half
-- drive off
-- after about 2 minutes, push choke in fully

I had assumed that the cold start issues were related to the gas running back out of the carb, or the lines draining. I had the same routine, only I let it turn (crank) for about 30-40 seconds, then give it three or four pumps of the gas pedal and she caught right away after that. I was almost ready to put an electric fuel pump in even with the carb so it got fuel pressure to the carb right away.

Yes I will be taking notes and lots of pictures if we can get this off the ground. I took lots of pictures of the engine coming apart in the 62 donor and will probably do a write up as we go too. Still waiting to figure it out though!

Well that's good to know that the issues should mostly alleviate once I go through and desmog with tune-up. Really interested in doing something like this as I want to keep this thing as close to Toyota original as possible. Would love the opportunity down the road to do this conversion as I highly doubt I will be able to get the money together for a Toyota Diesel, but a man can dream can't he!!!

My routine is the same except I pump my pedal 5 times and she fires right up.

I just turn the key :p

Since I don't have the time or mechanical experience to do a conversion like this, is there a reputable shop near the state of Wyoming that would do this for me? I'm willing to pay up for a top notch job. Probably put in an H55 as well. I heard Profitts does Chevy conversions. I want to keep her an inline six and all Toyota.

I'd be very interested to know what a shop would charge as well. But for just the wiring part... I can't have my truck down for long. Turning a wrench is easy... Wiring, not so much for me.

You might talk with Georg (OrangeFJ45) @Valley Hybrid in Stockton, Ca... Not sure if he has done them before or not but he might be able to help recommend a shop... Also I would talk with Boots, DirtyGypsy, and those guys up in Northern Oregon that have done some of the more major swaps.

What he said ^

^What he said about what gregnash said.

Gosh, I don't know what you boys are looking for. The information out there is, in my opinion, very detailed and more than enough to accomplish the job. If you really need more hand-holding than what has already been provided you might consider paying to have the conversion done. The 2F + 3FE conversion is not rocket science. It might sound intimidating at first, but in reality it's not hard.
