2FE into a 60

Looking good Dean. Nice to see you have a little help out there with you.

Is that terminal one that can be rigged with a spade connector? IIRC, I had to do that with one sensor/switch on the thermostat.

By the way, Pappy, your manual on your conversion is like a bible!! Thanks for all the work you put into that.

D.

You're welcome.

On that third connector to the ECU. Are you missing the plug, or the cowl harness? I might have a cowl harness stripped down in my pile.

Hey I just figured out how to do this [O]=TOYOTA=[O] for a 60!

It's amazing what you do when your left unsupervised...

Curtis, it's the one on the right side (left when your looking at it from the front) that doesn't have the spade connector, it's the round clip type plug with a really small spade like pin inside the connector on the pc. I don't even know what it is. I think it's some kind of temp sensor. It's under the two water lines that go to the intake to warm it. Take a look at the pics I posted above with the broken wire in my hand.

Pappy, I have the engine harness and only need the plug and a short tail of wire to connect into. I am using an 88 62 as the donor so it is specific to that year I believe. I also have randy88fj62 looking for me as well!

I really appreciate all the help from everyone!!!

Just fired up my Dad's 60 that I put my 3FE into today. It feels good to hear it run. I have to figure out wiring the neutral saftey switch but everything else is pretty good. I am using a 62 dash harness as well as engine harness. Good job and keep it up!!!!!!

I was looking at the engine all put together and got to thinking that this thing is quite a bit taller than the 2F all put together, and I started wondering is it going to fit under the hood?? Then I did some looking and the only difference between the 2F and the 3FE is 0.30" longer stroke. So does that mean the 2FE engine is only .30" taller than a 3FE? It seems to fit in the 62 just fine.

....me with too much time to think...

The 2F block is taller than the 3FE by ~1.75"(?). You have the longer stroke to accommodate, but also longer connecting rods and taller pistons. It will fit, but there will be a bit of rub if you still have the liner on the bottom of the hood.

I'll try to remember to check on the connector when I'm out by my truck.

Yup, that same connector was toast on my harness. I gutted the inside of the connector (cut out the actual connector inside and drilled the backside for a new wire) and used the plastic housing to enclose a generic spade connector.

Hey Curtis, I got an email back from SOR and they have that ECM plug available with a 3" pigtail for $20. I think I am going to grab it. Is that all I need to get in order to do everything we need with the wiring?

I think that would be the starting point we want, but I would like to hear from someone who's put one into a formerly carbed engine.

um, sounds like a long hard road to do it that way. i won't say it's impossible though. i just finished this part of the conversion, and had the full dash (actually ended up getting pretty much every harness) harness to work with. if you go to my thread i have a link with some wiring diagrams that make it all possible, and i'll tell you now it was nice to have everything laid out in front of me, even in spite of the 53 or so extra wires that weren't explicitly needed. if dean still has that harness from the donor rig, i'd highly suggest just taking that out and splitting it up.

No, like an idiot I let it go with the carcass and am now kicking myself for several reasons. But live and learn as they all say. Next time I will grab everything I possibly have because you can always get rid of stuff after the fact.

These pics are for Drew (60 Toy ota)!

This is the mount that was on the 62. It is for the alternator that was on the drivers side, but on the 60, that is where my power steering pump sits. You can see what I replaced it with.

The one hose that comes from the pump has a large stem and the new hoses from the 3FE had smaller hoses. I found a steel line that went inside the smaller one and that line went into the larger one. Clamped them all down and here's to hoping it works!

I don't understand. When I did my 2FE I kept the FJ60 alternator in the factory location on the passenger side, and kept the FJ60 PS pump on the drivers side, both using the FJ60 brackets.

Pappy, that is exactly what I did, the 62 had them in different places, so that was why I had to change out some mounts that were on the 3FE head with what was on the 2F in the 60.

Just got a call from the the guys rebuilding my alternator. Seems it burst a diode from over charging / having too high a draw on something and has a bad rectifier. He can't get the rectifiers any longer so I have sent down the 62 alternator to see if he can use any parts in that. They are going to try to do somethingwith the innerds from that to update the 60, or try to shoehorn the guts from the new one into the old body if they aren't the same. Seems interesting though that parts aren't available anymore. Anyone else run into this?

still haven't heard back about my alternator issues, but then I haven't really had to worry about it either. Had a catastrophic bathroom failure last weekend and had to completely strip out the main bath, right down to the tub, cabinet, toilet , subfloor, walls... you get the idea. Black mold and rotting insulation aren't what I was really needing at this point in my life.

I ordered a cowl harness from SOR today to do what 60 toy oto is doing to his conversion. He ended up splicing in the needed wiring into his 60 from a complete harness. I will post his link here too so you can take a look if you haven't already. Drew went to a lot of work documenting and videoing the process to make it easier for anyone else.

Got my alternator back and it's alive!!! Also got the complete harness out if a 62 from SOR this week. I'm hoping to spread it out and start the cutting.... soon.
