I was assembling my 2F rebuild today using a set of .25mm undersized mains from cevite . I put the bearings in the block and when I lowered the crank in the #3 bearing was tight (would not fit at all). Upon removing the crank I realized the issue was the side walls of the bearing (thrust side) were wider than the journal. Here is a picture of the bearing and the packaging.
When I looked at the box I realized there was little note in it stating that the bearing had a wider width flange.
Looks like this bearing set will not work, or I will have to get my crank ground again on the thrust faces. Anyone run into this before?? Suggestions? @FJ40Jim or anyone else?
I’m assuming that there is not good way of modifying the bearing. I do have access to a cnc and manual mill, surface grinder (which does not seem like a good idea) and most other machine shop equipment.
I’m also assuming that there is no good way to get may hands on just the #3 bearing......
Suggestions appreciated.
Thx!
