“defects in materials or workmanship” is a BS get out of jail free clause.

Not my experience at all with my trailer - last trip was pulling it 65-75 mph down 4-lane highways all day. Somewhat hilariously passed a number of diesel trucks pulling larger campers. FYI, I've towed with pre-emissions Cummins trucks and gas F250s as well.

My trailer, empty, is 48% of the tow capacity of my GX. Loaded it is 62%. I also have headers, upgraded transmission valve body, exhaust, and TC lockup switch. Can't wait til it gets 4.56 gears so I can use the cruise control more (use it about half-time now). Most tow vehicles are going to suck when you get up to 80, 90, 100% of their rated capacity. I would not want to tow a 5,500# camper with a GX any more than I would want to tow a 9,200# camper with a Tundra. You were towing too big of a camper with your GX. I specifically sized my camper to avoid that.

Well, its weird you disagreed with me, in that case. The tow capacity of the 250 is 6k. In my example I said I wouldn't want to tow a 5k trailer around. That's 83%.

Soooo.... we are in agreement.

I’ll just drop this here since I haven’t seen anyone post it. New 4Runner in the background?
It has been mentioned multiple times now. They also dropped some Toyota drawings in the SLC video that honestly look much better. this could be the reports of the shorter 2 door LC but it looks more like suicide rear doors and potentially what they may bring as a 4R. I like how they are bringing in obnoxious size tire an wheel combo so must be considering the ability to upsize tires later on. These are Toyota renderings, not some 3rd party.

One of others in this release video with potential 3rd parts add on's:

Yes, we are in agreement - towing too close to the max GCWR on any vehicle is going to suck. Towing a 5,500# camper in a GX is too much for me but some people do like it.

We are not in agreement that the LC250 or 120/150s are crummy tow vehicles. They aren't and can comfortably tow a lot more than a "3,000 pound bass boat on flat ground". They (120/150 at least) do just well when towing more weight than that in hilly terrain, when within their weight rating, just like any other tow vehicle.

The press release of the GX also showed photos of the chassis with a battery. I'd be surprised if they don't release it with the 2.4L hybrid as well.

I am sure there is a lot of bitching and moaning in here. This, and the GX, and the Taco hit it out of the park. Toyota is doing great with TNGA platform. Sucks we did not get any cool versions of the 300 series here, I am disappointed in how they implemented the hybrid system in the Tundra (I wanted more gas mileage), and that cargo area in the Sequoia is dumb (but it sure looks sexy)... but overall they are doing awesome.

I will have a TNGA platform. I just want to go mess around with all of them in person, once the dust settles.
You won't find these sitting on a lot. Dealers will sell them before they are in production.

Toyota claims that they don't play games with tow rating and you should be fine to tow the full tow rating all day every day. On my tundra - I wouldn't think twice about pulling 10k lbs cross country. Something like a the 5k lb tow rating on a 3rd gen 4Runner - that seems optimistic at best. On a 5th gen - it's the engine that's the limiting factor. And the aerodynamics are usually the issue. Two yards of sand in a small dump trailer is north of 5k and pulls easily with a 4Runner. An empty box trailer can be a struggle. The chassis (with KDSS especially) is perfectly capable of the full 5k lb tow rating. Or the 6500lbs for the GX460 that shares the platform. If they had more power, they'd pull really well (for a midsize SUV).

I've generally found that max tow rating using the SAE standard can be done safely on the Toyota side. Would I feel good about 20k lbs behind my F250? Not really. I would do it locally though. I pulled a Case 580 around with it that was probably pushing 20k with the trailer. Not sure I'd want to take that cross country very badly. Although I wouldn't want to drive it cross country either way because it would probably break down somewhere. haha. But it's always a bit of a case specific question of where I'm going and what is safe (and close enough to legal) for the circumstances.

For life in the mountain west - if you want to spend time at campgrounds in the national parks, there's very frequently 40 foot max limits. That's where the 4Runner or GX is great. I can go to Yellowstone or Arches and fit a 22 foot overall trailer plus the 4R into a 20 foot spot (20 foot spots at national parks are often 40 feet actual length limit - not sure why they do it that way). With my F250 that was 22 feet long - now I'm 47ish feet with the hitch length and it won't fit. I left the F250 at home a few times just for that reason. I really like the convenience of having a smaller vehicle for a lot of purposes while out exploring and camping. Even the Tundra can be a PITA to park at national parks. And it's a giant pig to try to go anywhere off road.

Did I read it right that the GX also has more ground clearance than the LC?
I think its got to be down to the suspension height. They appear to share all the same chassis and running gear. So the clearance is just a matter of tire size that's also the same and then probably front suspension height setting. The LC may also have skid plates that the GX doesn't that hang a bit lower.

@Jetboy had another take, he wanted the front shorter on the GX, now you know why it is so long, the LC got lopped off.
I'm glad to see it. I think the front end looks odd on the LC. But I like that they shortened it up a bunch. No reason to have a big empty void up there! Especially when the engine is set so far back. It must be the cooling and other stuff on the TTv6 though. A v6 is shorter length than an inline 4. If the transmission and transfer case are located in the same spot, then the TTv6 should have a few inches more dead space than the 4cyl for the engine its self.

To me the Sequoia is the best new LandCruiser replacement for the US. Tows 9k, rear diff lock, 3rd row, 20+ mpg. Of course a little more money but for $65K, you can get a lot more value than the 4 pistons and $60k cloth seats.

And if they are going to slap I-Force badges on everything, why not? Of course that's a used model down the line for me.

I don’t think they’ve quoted GX ground clearance yet. Would expect it to be the roughly the same…
I saw it was around 8" and some change

Current LC poverty packs generally have non-turbo engine, vinyl seats, no fender flares (narrow body), no AC, no standard radio, no lockers, no LSD, no power lock, manual windows...
I'm aware. No sun roof, cloth seats, no running boards, comparatively smaller radio, less gadgets in general...close as you are going to get in 2023/24.

The comparison is little deceptive due to the parallax angle of the photos. I estimate the front is about 2" shorter and the rear is about 1" shorter, for the total difference of about 3".

Fwiw, online posts have 8.7 for the LC and 9.6 for the GX but don’t think official numbers are out yet.
