Current LC poverty packs generally have non-turbo engine, vinyl seats, no fender flares (narrow body), no AC, no standard radio, no lockers, no LSD, no power lock, manual windows...It's pretty close to a modern poverty pack...
I'd prefer the bigger engine over a few inches of clearance. The difference is in the front and rear overhangs, the LC 250 has shorter front and rear overhangs for better approach and departure angles.

Not my experience at all with my trailer - last trip was pulling it 65-75 mph down 4-lane highways all day. Somewhat hilariously passed a number of diesel trucks pulling larger campers. FYI, I've towed with pre-emissions Cummins trucks and gas F250s as well.
My trailer, empty, is 48% of the tow capacity of my GX. Loaded it is 62%. I also have headers, upgraded transmission valve body, exhaust, and TC lockup switch. Can't wait til it gets 4.56 gears so I can use the cruise control more (use it about half-time now). Most tow vehicles are going to suck when you get up to 80, 90, 100% of their rated capacity. I would not want to tow a 5,500# camper with a GX any more than I would want to tow a 9,200# camper with a Tundra. You were towing too big of a camper with your GX. I specifically sized my camper to avoid that.
It has been mentioned multiple times now. They also dropped some Toyota drawings in the SLC video that honestly look much better. this could be the reports of the shorter 2 door LC but it looks more like suicide rear doors and potentially what they may bring as a 4R. I like how they are bringing in obnoxious size tire an wheel combo so must be considering the ability to upsize tires later on. These are Toyota renderings, not some 3rd party.I’ll just drop this here since I haven’t seen anyone post it. New 4Runner in the background?
I heard 4 inches narrower. We are talking inches but they do matter. Just ask around in some other circles!
Yes, we are in agreement - towing too close to the max GCWR on any vehicle is going to suck. Towing a 5,500# camper in a GX is too much for me but some people do like it.Well, its weird you disagreed with me, in that case. The tow capacity of the 250 is 6k. In my example I said I wouldn't want to tow a 5k trailer around. That's 83%.
Soooo.... we are in agreement.
Look in the yellow circle on the right for the air gap at the bumper, between the blue lines.Iit in the front. I don't really see it in the back.
@Jetboy had another take, he wanted the front shorter on the GX, now you know why it is so long, the LC got lopped off.I'd prefer the bigger engine over a few inches of clearance.
You won't find these sitting on a lot. Dealers will sell them before they are in production. The press release of the GX also showed photos of the chassis with a battery. I'd be surprised if they don't release it with the 2.4L hybrid as well.
I am sure there is a lot of bitching and moaning in here. This, and the GX, and the Taco hit it out of the park. Toyota is doing great with TNGA platform. Sucks we did not get any cool versions of the 300 series here, I am disappointed in how they implemented the hybrid system in the Tundra (I wanted more gas mileage), and that cargo area in the Sequoia is dumb (but it sure looks sexy)... but overall they are doing awesome.
I will have a TNGA platform. I just want to go mess around with all of them in person, once the dust settles.
I think its got to be down to the suspension height. They appear to share all the same chassis and running gear. So the clearance is just a matter of tire size that's also the same and then probably front suspension height setting. The LC may also have skid plates that the GX doesn't that hang a bit lower.Did I read it right that the GX also has more ground clearance than the LC?
I'm glad to see it. I think the front end looks odd on the LC. But I like that they shortened it up a bunch. No reason to have a big empty void up there! Especially when the engine is set so far back. It must be the cooling and other stuff on the TTv6 though. A v6 is shorter length than an inline 4. If the transmission and transfer case are located in the same spot, then the TTv6 should have a few inches more dead space than the 4cyl for the engine its self.@Jetboy had another take, he wanted the front shorter on the GX, now you know why it is so long, the LC got lopped off.
I don’t think they’ve quoted GX ground clearance yet. Would expect it to be the roughly the same…Did I read it right that the GX also has more ground clearance than the LC?
To me the Sequoia is the best new LandCruiser replacement for the US. Tows 9k, rear diff lock, 3rd row, 20+ mpg. Of course a little more money but for $65K, you can get a lot more value than the 4 pistons and $60k cloth seats.@Jetboy had another take, he wanted the front shorter on the GX, now you know why it is so long, the LC got lopped off.
I saw it was around 8" and some changeI don’t think they’ve quoted GX ground clearance yet. Would expect it to be the roughly the same…
I'm aware. No sun roof, cloth seats, no running boards, comparatively smaller radio, less gadgets in general...close as you are going to get in 2023/24.Current LC poverty packs generally have non-turbo engine, vinyl seats, no fender flares (narrow body), no AC, no standard radio, no lockers, no LSD, no power lock, manual windows...
The comparison is little deceptive due to the parallax angle of the photos. I estimate the front is about 2" shorter and the rear is about 1" shorter, for the total difference of about 3".I'm glad to see it. I think the front end looks odd on the LC. But I like that they shortened it up a bunch. No reason to have a big empty void up there! Especially when the engine is set so far back. It must be the cooling and other stuff on the TTv6 though. Fwiw, online posts have 8.7 for the LC and 9.6 for the GX but don’t think official numbers are out yet.I don’t think they’ve quoted GX ground clearance yet. Would expect it to be the roughly the same…
