Perhaps the reason the split tailgate was axed was for security reasons. Theft prevention.

The FJ60 obviously has a tailgate security problem:

The feature set on this Hummer in both cool, practical and technology function is INCREDIBLE.

If given the choice for a brand new 300, or a 70. I'm taking the 70. Vehicles don't need all the widgets. AC, power brakes, power steering, then my list gets a little scarce. All of that crap makes vehicles unnecessarily expensive, and more prone to failure.

Yeah, I hate my seat heaters and steering wheel warmer. It totally sucks. They’re nothing but a distraction.

Yep, I've over paid for that nonsense before too. But then after a little bit of research, I found out I have shockingly average genitals, and I don't need to spend ludicrous amounts of money on something to try and prove to the world they're not inadequate. 😆

If you want to buy widgets, more power to you. I've owned enough vehicles to know that very few are well made. The base model with a vinyl floor lasts just as long as the fully loaded model, with less disappointments in the middle.

Looks smaller than I expected.

I ordered a SR DCLB for my company about 6 weeks ago and never heard back. Assuming they didnt pick up my order.

Going to wait till later in the year and order a higher level trim one and give my F350 to the company. Or an LX600.

Owning now and having owned multiple Tundras, Sequoias, and Land Cruisers am qualified to say that the American made Toyotas are lesser vehicles in terms of fit, finish, and attention to detail. It gets down to something as simple as a switch or button where you can immediately tell where price was the deciding factor. Cheaper everything and it shows.

Keep in my mind I am not discussing capability. It’s always the case that people want to think that what they have or can afford is as good as something of greater value or higher cost. It makes you feel like you got a bargain or a deal and there is nothing wrong with having that feeling even if it is divorced from reality.

This is slowly not becoming a rumor… ;)

Sadayoshi Koyari is on the motha-fawka
@OGBeno If you have any info or updates on the J180 or GX550, it would be awesome to hear about it over in the GXOR group.

I too was sad to see that that they dropped the split gate on the 300 but it definitely does make sense from a cost savings standpoint and I don't know how popular or well received they are beyond us LC enthusiasts if I am being realistic. It's a shame that it doesn't have the roll down rear glass either as that's a huge perk to the 4Runner platform and easily could have been done on the 300 with the more traditional lift gate. But at the end of the day at least you can relish in the fact that it has a lift gate and not a swing gate like the GX.
I replaced the upper lift gate on 2002 due to rust. It’s been 6 years and I can see rust discolorization on its way. As much as I like the tailgate I might not be the only one with the issue. My LC has been garaged its entire life so it’s not from exposure.

Do you live near the coast? If so the ocean air can cause rust in parts you wouldn't expect it to even if you park it in a garage. I don't think rust in the upper gate is a very common problem and if you've already replaced it once and it's already developing some rust then I bet that's the culprit.

@Kajun the GX550 I think will be a sweet spot.

They are going to have an off-road version with lift and 33s from factory.

Boxy like Defenders….

Great part even with motor detuned so much potential power upgrades in Middle East happening so far.

Oh. Don’t be a tease. I sure as heck hope you are right. (I have no reason to doubt you).
I figured it would be detuned. Hopefully the V6 and not a turbo 4. Regardless though;
we were recently offered a ridiculous sum for our old non Toyota vehicle. My wife agreed to an upgrade and now we’re in a ‘22 GX460.
A world of difference from my 80. And I love it. If the replacement is what you say… Well

Rumor is the VA35 with the SR Tundra tune.

Im thinking eventually the after market tunners would offer SR5+ equivalent tunes, giving you that level of power.
