Just getting started on this, I am still in the parts Collecting stage, this will get going once I finish my 60/80 build that’s about 99% done. Zero mile body and interior. PW,PL, tilt, PM, duel tanks, vent windows, fender flares. I also purchased a RHD 2014 50k miles truck for the drive train and wiring. I got some 2009 HZJ 79 axles to go with it. Both trucks were locked so it should not be too difficult. Drivetrain is 1GR backed by an H150.

Now that is how to start a build thread!

She’s a roller! Frame modifications completed, Body mounted on the frame and used some spare 80 and 79 suspension parts to mount the 79 axles to make it a roller. I also purchased new OEM 79 series LX wheels. Proper lift and tires will follow, brake lines and fuel lines going in this weekend.00

Quick update, installed all fuel lines and brake lines. Mounted both fuel tanks and wired up the back half of the truck and the engine bay. Connected the motor with the trans then connected all the wiring on both after converting it from RHD to LHD. Should be stabbing the motor sometime this week.

I got to see it in person today and DAAAAANG. It is so nice.

Let’s stab that motor and tranny in this weekend!

so... is this just assembling a disassembled Cruiser? Where's the actual building part?

Is that basically the same engine that’s in the Tacoma?

I believe it went in Tacos, FJCruisers, 4Runners in the USA and GR79’s overseas. In fact I think you can get a GR76 as well, even a GR78. Not sure if only manual trans in the 70-series, obviously auto here. I am sure it is decent power wise for a pickup, soso for something more heavy. Manual trans helps too. No expert myself on the 1GR or GR7x’s.

Cheers

The 1GR motor is also available in the 200 series in several overseas markets. If it can push a 200 it should be fine in a light pickup. Plus the 1GR. Stats are more impressive then a 1HZ or 1FZ. Parts are easy to get here in the states too. ( a supercharger is also available🤔)
