Moose knuckle. Damn thing looks like a Tundra. Pretty soon they'll be churning them out here in San Antonio, tx with s*** build quality like the tundra. I'll keep my 08 thank you very much

Ok, I like it.

The 06 and 08 are the best looking to me, of those pictured there.

Very cool side by side comparison pics, thanks for putting those together.

Very thankful none of them bother me to the point i would not buy it.
Cant say that when i look at the current GX or 4 runner.

Yeah, I agree. 4 runner and GX. No way. Horrible. 100 series looks I love since day 1. It has aged really well.

I'd just like to add that if you want a great looking SUV, land cruisers have not historically been the best choice.

For my $80k I could have purchased many other things. I personally love the fact that Toyota makes such an anonymous looking, yet indestructible vehicle that only those "in the know" can possibly appreciate.

That's half the appeal to me: the unattractive exterior and price tag all but guarantee it will be rare.

Toyota is about dead to me. They have taken everything great about their products and "Americanized" them to death. Rather than make true to their roots practical trucks they make bloated plastic p.o.s'. How is one supposed to upfit that vehicle for a winch or bullbar? Same as the new 4 runner.....oh look we have a 4wd lever and a locker! Yeah and tons of blind spots and way undersized drivetrain components. Looks like unless they do something full retard I'll be sticking with Jeeps from here on out unless Mr T gets his head out of his butt.

What are you even talking about? I had a 2011 FJ Cruiser and it had great visibility, and the mirror size was a major reason why. Same with my 2013 Tundra Rock Warrior Edition--in fact, despite the size of both, their visibility and ease of driving in any situation was 100x better than the FRS I own.

I wheeled the FJ an insane amount. Bud built skids covering the entire undercarriage, 3" OME lift and some Nitto Trails were about all it needed to go anywhere, anytime. I wheeled many of the most technical Colorado and Moab trails. The FJ was a tank. Never had any issues other Than ones of my own stupidity (wrecked exhaust bent underneath, and too charcoal canister with it). I wheeled with plenty of jeeps and other 4x4's and their quality issues--even on newer ones--were laughable. Idiot lights, lockers not engaging, overheating, on and on.

As to "upfitting"-I assume you mean mods? The vehicles I mentioned above all have a huge after market for winch bumpers, armor, etc.

As to your "POS" comment: you don't sound like someone that owns a Late model Toyota 4x4, but you sure do have strong opinions about them. Don't let the pretty plastic fool you, Toyota 4x4's are as tough as they've ever been.

Same here, 100s always looked good to me, took a little while for the 200 to grow on me, but now with so many ugly designs out there, i have really grown to love the more subdued apperence of my 200s.

I base my judgement on the Fjs on the fact they run the same diffs as my elocked 3rd gen runner and I flat out could not hold it together on 285s. Every time I wheeled it I broke a front or rear 3rd. It NEVER wheeled on 285s and made it home without a trailer. I toasted a brand new set of rack and pinion bushings in 100 miles of trail at harlan. So using logic a heavier vehicle with 80 more horse and less visibility would never hold up for my wheeling style. I wish it would have....setup right they look great and I have always been a cruiser guy.

My 80 did very well and went everywhere I pointed it. The only damage I managed on it was kersploding a front diff and ripping the front sway bar links off the axle.

My previous fj40 was tough as nails but just become to primitive of a platform for my tastes. I like going 85mph on the interstate with a good stereo and cold air in my face with 3 buddies on the way home from a wheeling trip. My current Fj will never wheel aside from a mild trail or dirt road.

For my needs currently nothing even comes close to the 4 door JK in capability, parts availability, or versatility. When I get to the trail everything bolted on comes off (windshield, doors, and hardtop) in about 20 minutes and I'm on my way with very little risk of body damage. It has more room than my 80 for gear and gets 5mpg more on the highway headed to the trails. I don't care how big the mirrors are or how effective...they simply cannot match the ability to take a top, windshield, and doors off on the trail. Until Toyota brings a true 80,70, or 40 series replacement to the states....I'll drive my Italian jeep with fading plastics. It's the only thing that suits my needs.

The 100 series is so good looking. The LC and GX that scroll across acc's webpage are beautiful

I think my LX470 with the OME lift and Slee step sliders and 33" tires is way better looking then my LX570. They really are like two different animals. I love them both for different reasons.

I love the 100 series!!!!

I would be interested to here how your JK holds up with your "wheeling style" (which sounds like a LOT of heavy right foot). I've always loved the capability and aftermarket with regards to Jeeps--especially how cheap aftermarket bumpers, etc are--but I don't respect how cheaply they are made.

Right out of the box jeep axles are weak and prone to breaking. I wheeled a brand new rental jeep in Moab some years ago and the rental place said "careful not to break an axle!", and sure enough 20 minutes later on fins n things... Snap. My FJ was wheeled 10x harder and never broke anything (other than what I mentioned above as operator error).

In my experience, Jeeps are always one (or less) trail runs away from breaking down.

I know we all have purely anecdotal evidence for our claims. You seem to have a good deal of experience, as do I. Interesting that we've drawn different conclusions.

If I'm wrong, and your JK is actually built better than any of the Toyotas we are talking about, and it holds up to your abuse, I'd be very surprised.

So as not to hijack this thread any further...I started another one to answer any questions:

I currently own a 2015, so naturally i should be hating on the 2016 and saying 2015 is much better, but i honestly think the rear end of the new one is a definitive improvement. Even the front end isn't too bad, i think it will look much better in real life. All in all, i am very relieved they didn't ruin the LC design. Seeing what some of the new Toyota products look like lately, i think the LC dodged a bullet.

The thing with the RX and the new generation Lexus ( NX for example ) is even though they have giant grilles, they sort of don't really look out of place to me anyway because the rest of the body is also over styled with curves and sharp lines. Not neccesserliy agreeing they look good but it sort of fits the theme.
With the GX and LX though, if you put a giant grille and try to give it sharp lines while having a relatively plain side, it just doesn't work and looks even worse than it would on other Lexus vehicles. They made it work on the facelift LX because the grille wasn't crazy, but the GX is a perfect example of how wrong it went and why i am worried about the LX.
GX sales improved greatly in the US after the last facelift because they decreased the price but i also have been reading that some cost cutting happened on the interior to help make the cost reduction achievable.
