Just installed my new set of 285/70/17 BF Goodrich KM3 on Rock Warriors.

Perfection!

First of all, thank you to all that posted in this thread. It helped tremendously in my shopping.

For me... Stock suspension. No spacers. Just bolt on replacements.

As much as I wanted Rock Warrior wheels because 17" meant more sidewall squish, finding a set in decent condition without spending an arm and a leg was fruitless after nearly a year of shopping. I found a few sets, but other buyers snapped them up before I could. The bronze BBS forged TRD wheels are also quite appealing to me, but again, the incredibly high cost turned me away. As much a like traditional 5-spoke wheels, the Toyota offerings weren't really doing it for me. I like the wide spoke Tundra wheels in the test fitment shown below, but the offset sucked them in a bit too far for my liking and I didn't want spacers. Meanwhile, the 10-spoke Land Cruiser wheels caught my eye, so there you have it.

275/65R18 (32") BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2, Tundra wheels. 91lbs each tire + wheel. Test fitment and test drive before installing on my brother's Tundra (not the green one shown below). Turn in slightly more responsive than Grabber ATX, which I attribute to the stiffer sidewalls of LT rating.

275/70R18 (33") General Grabber ATX, 2018 Land Cruiser wheels. 78 lbs each tire + wheel. Installed Nov 2021, so not many miles to give long term feedback. I'm still experimenting with on-road tire pressure in the 31-38 psi range. Initial feedback on-road is noise levels on par with the KO2. Noticeably more, but certainly not objectionable, noise than the OE Michelin Latitude Tour HP, but those are very street biased, crossover tires . So far, my wife and kids have not mentioned one iota about tire noise. (very) slightly softer ride than KO2, but I attribute it to the load rating SL (General) vs. LT (KO2) and slight bit of additional sidewall. My first choice was KO2 because of the rugged appearance and legendary performance, toughness, and durability, however the feedback about sketchy wet weather traction turned me off. This is my wife's daily driver and family trickster, so I didn't want to be concerned about wet traction. Furthermore, 90% driving will be on road, but I wanted the capability, confidence, and assurance of a capable all-terrain tire when the chances and opportunities present themselves. The only rubbing was the outboard shoulder against the front splash guard inboard couple inches at nearly full lock. That was remedied with a heat gun and 2x4 reshaping the plastic a bit. These are the summer tires; Bridgestone Blizzak DMV2 (255/70R18 = tall and skinny) serve winter duty. Therefore, winter traction wasn't very high on priority list for all-terrain tires.

Now that I've had the 33s on, there's no going back to smaller tires. I like how they fill the wheel wells. All these view with suspension set in N mode.

This thread has been great and it's been awesome to see the different builds. I am still trying to sort out my set up, however. I have a 21 Land Cruiser and was able to get Evo Corse DakarZero 17x8 ET:40 matte black wheels from Main Line Overland. I am trying to figure out what tires to put on them. I will probably get a bp51 lift and UCAs and a KDSS relo. I do a lot of driving in wet, icy, and mountainous terrain. I have been thinking of Falken Wildpeak AT3 in 285/75r17. Will this tire fit without additional mods and without rubbing? Can I go larger? Any downsides to this set up? Any other recommendations? Thanks for the insight.

I'll add my 2 cents on the rubbing issue. With 285/75/17 you'll definitely get a little rubbing. I just put on a set of KM3s 285/70/17 (a little smaller diameter compared to 285/75/17) I didn't want to cut any of inner lining plastics so I resorted to using a couple of zip ties to increase my wheel well :)

Access to the original seems to have been lost to time. We have started a new version with a survey here and results that can be filtered/sorted here. It's not encyclopedic yet, but every 200 added to the survey helps fill out the database.
@MScruiser can you update the #1 post to include the link to the "new" survey so we can find it easier. I think @dntlflosstycoon first post of it is on page 37 or there abouts. I'm only at page 41 of 80 at this point, I'd found it at one point and forgot to bookmark it and most of us probably feel the same way about the site's search function. Hopefully, it will encourage us to keep adding to it and updating their set up already in it when they change something.

Finally read through the 80 pages of this thread and I'm still left wondering what tire size to purchase. The 4th line in my signature is going to need to be updated soon. Nearly all the parts are in for the Tundra front end swap, and I'd like to have the tires mounted. We’re sticking with OE wheels for now.

To keep it safe and not worry too much about gearing it looks like a LT275/70R18 is the likely winner. We have a Dissent bumper waiting to be installed so trimming isn’t an issue. I’d would like to go with a 34” tire eventually. With the increase in scrub radius from the tundra arms, what other tire sizes are worth considering?

Are you set on 18" wheel? What about KDSS relocation?

Sticking with the 18s for the time being, need to give the wallet a break for a bit . Going to being purchasing 8 tires... The Kimberley's tires need to to close in size. The Slee relocation kit is in hand and ready to be installed.

@FJRanger With the relocation bracket and 18's I'd vote for either lt295/70r18 or something in the 35" flavor. Skip the lt275/70r18. I do like this size. Currently have this size in the kenda klever rt. It's one of the tallest and widest 275 options available (33.43x11.22). Any larger and i'd be seriously rubbing the driver side KDSS.

I am in a similar situation, trying to figure out the right tire size. I have read most of this thread and talked with countless shops, including Slee, Main Line Overland, Mule in Issaquah, and Torfab in Everett and everyone has a slightly different answer about what will, might, or won't work. I think it comes down to personal preference and tolerance for rubbing, trimming, and the overall goals of your rig.

I am getting a BP-51 lift, got a set of DakarZero wheels in 17x8 ET 40, and am trying to figure out the tire size in a Falken Wildpeak AT3W. I have had people tell me 275/70r17 for easy fit to 285/70r17 for a safe bet with minimal trim all the way up to 285/75r17 with some trimming and possible KDSS relo. I want the biggest tire I can get without having to do a lot of trimming and would prefer not to do the KDSS relo.

Thoughts on which route to go and for those who have done the KDSS relo, any long term issues?

285/70/17 will absolutely fit, is a popular size if you ever need to find a spare and makes the vehicle capable to what most people would feel comfortable doing in a vehicle of such size. Anything above that and the trimming/compromises start rolling in.

Mule told me 305/65/18 wouldn’t fit under my Dobinsons lift. I did it anyway with another shop because I wanted more beef. 275 was too skinny for my taste. Couldn’t be happier with this set up. Very minimal rub full lock in reverse. I had already removed front mud flaps and pushed front wheel well plastics forward for the 275/70/18s that were on there before. Super easy.
