I just thought I would post some real MPG numbers after my drive home from Cruise Moab this past Saturday. I'm running a newly installed 1HD-T engine with stock tune and A442F transmission with 33" tires, OME medium lift, winch, bull bar, ARB roof rack, and loaded down with tools/spare parts and camping gear for two people.

My first reading on my way down there was 16-17mpg, but our speed was about 75-85 MPH the whole way. On the way back I kept is around 65MPH and it improved mileage dramatically, My best was 20.5mpg from one fill-up.

Good info. Got any pics of the rig? Was it a conversion that you did at your shop?

Yes, we did the conversion at my shop a few weeks ago.

Here are some pics of it right now, still wearing the Moab dirt

That's pretty good mileage Tor. Nice meeting you down in Moab.

For some comparisons, my total trip (down there and back again, plus the 'wheeling) was 2237 miles+8.5% for the tires=2427 miles/172.3 gallons of fuel = 14 mpg on average. That is at 6550 pounds total weight including the RTT brick on the roof. For he highway we had cruise set at +/- 100 kmh (109) so that's 67 mph most of the time.

Sweet 80. I had the chance to check out an FJ60 diesel conversion that you did on one of our new club member's rig. Really clean conversion and the engine sounded silky smooth.

Do you have stock gasser exhaust, or what? Nice swap!

wow awesome! What does a complete conversion run someone? Plus engine cost?

I charge 5k in labor plus parts for a conversion, the engines run about 7-9k depending on condition and accessories attached.

That must have been Greg's cruiser, I believe he's the only guy we have in Texas. Glad you liked it!

I'm running the factory HDJ-81 exhaust for now, but I plan on upgrading it to a 3" system soon.

Tor,
very clean conversion.

Those are the sexiest engines around.

you'll be impressed with the 3" exhaust. You might also want to bump the timing 1mm advance (top of IP toward the motor). Then a boost controller to 15psi. That way when you add more fuel you won't totally spike your EGT. Those three things really really wake up the 1HDT.

BUT, you might think about a catch-can for that breather off the valve cover. My intake was clogged from years of fumes solidifying in there.

Tor - Get your alt (was that what happened) sorted out? Glad you made it home fine it sounds.

Enigma - Not sure we met or not, but we were camped across the road from you guys I believe.

I got about 21.5mpg heading back home from Moab, driving PAINFULLY slow. :crybaby:

I move my timing bit more and I'm still happy .. ( kind of 4 degrees ) nice conversion you have there .. factory filter and primer tho ..

Did you keep your stock gasser auto tranny or use the " diesel " A442F ?

I mangled my OEM washer fluid bottle until it fit in exactly that position - not knowing the diesels had it there stock. Can you source just the washer bottle? That looks cleaner than my hack-job.

It's not the factory location, the diesels sit on the left inner fender. I just made some small brackets and mounted it there.

Very clean install, I'm impressed how quiet those engines are, nice work, Tor !

ARRRRE it's so good to see you boys over there starting to get the hd t motors.

now what's this FZ alt mod you speak of. and PLEASE can you make up a braket to hold a york pump of OBA.
